Entry for 's March of Mice contest

Boooo!
"Get that rat of my piano! For god sake!"
"Who's allow him here in this talent competition? This is ridiculous!"

The crowd and competitors starting to yell knowing that a rat is joining a music competition.
Poor young rat is so sad and ashames of being there. He's about to leave when suddenly..

"Woah! What's going on here. I'm his partner!"
Young smart looking mouse showing up from behind the stage with a violin.

"So sorry for late!"

"Who are you-" the rat ask with confused

"Later.. just do what I say" The mouse whisper

"Yes! He's my partner! Did anyone have a problem with that?" The young mouse put the crowd in silent with his strong and confident voice.

"If you don't mind... then we shall start! Er... what's the song again, buddy? please pick a common one..." He whispering at his last sentence

"Oh.. ah. Arkansas traveler?" The rat tell him

"Perfect! You got it champ.. let's shake this stage!!"

...

After the shows end, the two young rodents walk along the street in silent.
Of cause they didn't win, no one gonna let dirty rat who work in a dock and living in the drain win the music competition even...
though when he got a mouse as a partner. Things won't change in others mind. But deep inside his heart... somethings change.

"Nice weather.." The mouse starts the conversion.

"Why did you do that for me?" The rat finally asking

"And what about you. Don't you come to join a competition too? Why throw away your chance for a rat like me?"

"Well first thing, that place is disgusting. I don't want to join such a competition full of small-minded people who judge a man by his race.
Second, every musician got the same right to play music, I want you to use your right. Third, I think it would be fun for me than playing solo."

"Thanks... nobody ever does that for me before. This means a lot to me."

"It's nothing. I'm happy to help, and you play a good song though... I'm Basil" The mouse reach out his hand.

"Ratigan..." The rat is a bit nervous to shake a hand, but he finally takes Basil's hand and shakes.

"I feel like we could be a good friend, Ratigan" Basil smile.

I always like the idea that these two used to be a good friend.
They might come from a very different environment, but there's one thing they are in common.
They both are a mad genius. With their talent, these boys are unstoppable.
I can totally see them as brain partner helping each other out in several cases.
But at one point...
when their goal is going against each other. This friendship has to come to its end.
