So, uh, the first thing I post here!Yeah. This picture.
Neophyte Redglare, character from Homestuck, and my favorite Ancestor so far. JUST1C3, you know. It's cool.
BTW i just recently finished reading of the webcomic itself, and it's damn amazing. I mean like really amazing. Like wow, I wasn't that impressed for a really long time to be honest.
My art generally has three main issues - boring poses, very boring faces, and blurry shitty backgrounds. As you can see, this thing beautifully represents them all! But ok, aside from jokes, I just wanted to draw something familiar for me, as a warmup after a long pause in art, so I ended up with something simple. I will try to improve in my next works though.

There's nothing wrong with boring faces. Redglare seems like the person to look so stern all the time. (Also the armor's great. Still happy about the flat heeled boots (Yes, I'm that same person from reddit))

This is so cyberpunk if that ever is an adjective, but Homestuck itself is cyberpunk. This is what Alternian clothing should look like, extravagant, full of gadgets, and ominous. If you don't mind I probably would ask people to make this into a Fallout clothing mod, it will be great.
By the way, do you have Blame! or Knights Of Sidonia as inspiration/reference for the piping?

Yes, my friend, Blame! is an inspiration for everything I draw in general, at least to a certain degree. It's the best manga I've seen so far, and I'm a big fan of Tsutomu Nihei's works and style. Maybe he is even the main reason why I love cyberpunk more than any other science fiction genre.
I kinda hate Knights of Sidonia though, it's extremely simplistic compared to Tsutomu's previous works, both in terms of visual style and overall plot. Hell, he even draws somewhat "standard anime faces" there. It's not really bad I think, but in comparison to Blame! or Abara, it really looks like "Tsutomu Nihei, but for kids and with fanservice" thing.

You has used the style well, if I can say so! Now please tell me you have plans for the other ancestors or maybe current day Alternia?
Sidonia in a few "lazy" chapters is drawn by a team instead of Nihei on his own because of a few health concerns, so that was a thing to excuse him for. About the plot, it has too many loose ends and empty promises. The good thing is that the life and combat details in Sidonia seem likable, I don't mean realistic but feels like something to live in.

Well I don't know about other Ancestors really - I can totally say that Her Imperious Condescension will get a fan art for sure, and I also planned to draw Vriska's Ancestral Awakening, but it will not be technically Ancestor herself of course. Which is not a bad thing anyway, because Mindfang is a Huge Bitch, bluh bluhΒ©. Signless also seems like an interesting person, but sadly not much is told about other Ancestors anyway, so they are not really interesting as a fan art material.
And well, as I said, Sidonia is not bad. It's just... simple. Generic, basically. The art style is way simpler than in his previous works, and not just in some chapters, but throughout the whole comic. The plot and the mood of story in general is also lighter and simpler. It's not about Sidonia being bad, it's just about an author who made a literally genius things in the past, and now just drew a... pretty decent comic book. And that's it, it's just pretty good, when Blame! is a goddamn pinnacle of cyberpunk.

Beautiful work on the armour. I think the face turned out good and the pose is fine, not much need for dynamics with so detailed character. You made her solid, strong knight, which fits her well! I am such a sucker for Neophyte, heh.
Out of negatives, I have two complaints. One is her shadow - it is stretched on oposite side it should imho be, it goes towards the light at front and not away from it. Second, I think the fabric of her sash shouldn't touch the left side of the canvas due to composition reasons. That said, expanding stuff over the canvas side is not forbbiden, it can make a strong feeling of closeness and intimacy, but in that case, I'd say it should touch more then one side of the canvas.
Overall... have a watch. Cyberpunk Homestuck is something I want to see. You have a talent and skill to make something original out of fanart.
(Also, if you want to improve, I would suggest Nsio's tutorials. nsio.deviantart.com/gallery/45β¦ I am not into fragile anime girls art of her, but damn, they know what to do with anatomy and dynamic pose, which you might like.

Yeah the shadow thing was really confusing for me, cuz i decided to put a secondary light source to the left, and it really appears brighter near her legs i think, but yeah, shadow is messy here.
And for the fabric touching the side of the pic - you're right, i planned to kinda slowly "fuse" it with the background near the floor, but couldn't do it right really so I left it in this state, which is really somewhat wrong in terms of composition.
I'll take a look at tutorials you recommended, thank you!

Secondary light is always a 8itch, man, fully understood! I rarely pin it down right-ish myself.
As for fusing stuff with background, that's actually a clever idea. Maybe try less saturated/bluish tone to the area? Not sure on that one, I barely started experimenting with that recently.
