That kid's hair is actually a stinger. His face is flush from his head pumping venom to the tip of his hair to a little concealed stinger in it.

This reminds me of DragonBall. Just more like how it was at the start, without ridicolously out-of-this-universe-powerful attacks. Just pure, true martial arts at its simple, but noble start for two young boys in front of their mentor, their families, and their shared girlfriend (and possible cause of getting into the sport, if you catch my drift?).
And in such an amazing, but at the same time simplistic art style of yours, this scene is pure bliss to the eye!
