It's comfortable to hold it from there, having part of the weight resting on your hip with the stock and the other part on your hand, instead of holding all the weight of the rifle with just your hand holding it by the grip.

Ah, okay then. When I do that it cramps my hand and hurts my hip. But I'm finicky like that and most of my friends like having a finger on the trigger so I suppose that is why they don't.

Try resting the stock where your belt goes to use your pants as a bit of a cushion
