Rain On Me.

Sora walked slowly down the street, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He wasn’t headed anywhere in particular, he just needed to get out of the house.

That, and it was raining.

The brunette loved the rain. There was just something about it that always made him feel better. It was like every single drop that hit him became a means of washing away his worries or his sins.

He stopped near a small park and sat down on one of the swings, leaning his head back and closing his eyes so the water could run across his face.

He was already soaked to the bone, his jeans dark and heavy, and his shirt sticking to him like a second skin. His hair was matted across his face and along the back of his neck, but Sora didn’t really think about all that. He just focused on the rain.

He inhaled deeply, never having been able to describe the smell that accompanied rain, but always loving it. It erased all the unpleasant odors, like pollution and garbage, and just forced you to smell rain.

It was like the smell of freshly cut grass, only better. The smell of grass fades quickly, but rain—oh, no, rain lasts a lot longer.

Sora heard a clap of thunder and opened his eyes to stare up at the dark sky. He waited a few seconds until lightning lit up the sky, followed once again by thunder.

Everything about rain was so amazing, and mystical. Sora wished it rained all the time, but he figured that if it did, he probably wouldn’t appreciate it as much.

“Sora!”

He turned on the swing to see Riku running towards him with an umbrella. He had a look of half anger and half relief on his face, which Sora figured only Riku had the ability to pull off.

“What are you doing, you idiot?! You’re gonna catch your death out here!”

He reached Sora quickly and covered him with the umbrella, which Sora found to be particularly stupid since he was already soaked, anyway.

“I’m fine.” he insisted with a big, toothy grin. “I like the rain.”

“You’re still gonna get sick!” Riku insisted, annoyed. “You’re so stupid, sometimes, Sora! I’ve been worried about you! You’ve been gone for hours!”

“I was just enjoying the rain.”

Sora grinned and snatched the umbrella out of Riku’s hand, closing it before leaping off the swing and running. Cursing the fact that his clothes were now wet, Riku chased after him, noticing how happy and playful Sora seemed.

The brunette threw the umbrella away, and instead of going after it, Riku tackled Sora around the middle, the two of them falling onto the wet grass. Riku landed on top of the smaller boy, both of them panting a little.

“You’re getting wet.” Sora teased.

“So are you.”

“No, I’m getting wetter.” He scowled a little. “And muddy. Rain, I like. Mud, not so much.”

Riku laughed, but made no move to get off Sora.

The brunette pouted, which caused the older boy to lean down and kiss the pout away.

“Mm, I like this. Kissing in the rain.” Riku grinned.

“Covered in mud.”

“That’s you, I’m not cove—” He let out a startled cry as Sora rolled over, changing their positions so that Riku’s back was now against the ground, mud staining his shirt. He looked at Sora, who was grinning, very unimpressed with the boy’s childishness.

“One of us dirty wasn’t bad enough?”

“I was returning the favor.” Sora leaned down and kissed his lips lightly.

The two of them continued to roll around in the mud until the rain stopped two hours later.
