If I'm being honest, I am very excited for new technologies and what it can offer us. But it's the nature of humans to often discard what we perceive as useless or obsolete, and tend to regret the ethical implications long after the damage is done.

Is art just an end product, or is it a human experience that we do and share with each other. A sunset is not art, but a painting or photo of one is. I always thought of art as something that passed through filter of a person, to tell a story that is not my own. A sum of experience, learning, emotions, and dedication to create something to share, whatever form that takes.

In a perfect world, this could be a valuable tool for many people, artists and non-artists alike, but like any new technology we need to be smart about it. The number of people calling themselves "artists" without actually doing any art is starting to dilute the meaning of the word. Everyone can have a dream, a vision, and a need to express, and AI can certainly allow a lot of those concepts to become a reality, but that doesn't make a person an "artist"

Art to me has always been a visual language. We learn the vocabulary from each other and those that came before us, and we eventually find our own voice. This is someone taking that voice, mimicking in a warped way. If you have a translator with you, are you suddenly good at languages? If you ordered off of UberEats, are you a chef? So why is it that people can use an AI generator and suddenly call themselves an artist?

Maybe I am wrong, maybe I am on the wrong side of history, but this feels like a gross violation on so many levels it becomes difficult to articulate.
Technology moves fast, but that doesn't mean we can't pause and think about it before we take the next step.
