Cool pic. Some constructive criticism: the hands are quite small compared to the rest of the body. I like the colours used and I hope you find time to finish the painting.

Bye, Maarten

Ehh, it's pretty nonedescript imo lol. Very standard digital painting techniques used here, you'll find plenty of tutorials on deviantart

Well, my advice is : either wait another 3 to 4 years of your life for this picture or move on to another new one.

Sometimes new begginigs oftern revigorate the mind of a tired artist. As for this picture goes, I see no wrong in it. The hands seem slightly smaller for a Battle Brother, but I've always imagined them like over-growned chickens, HUGE LIMBS, small heads , HUGE SHOULDERS FTW !

It still epic, this picture.

Even if you leave it as it is, it still sums up the firepower of a Space Marine.
Trust me, I'm an Ork person myself and I still dig it.

In the end, it's your call.
Learn to chill with life + your art.

Hmm, you haven't seen the rest of the painting lol. This is a very small crop. I've been battling with composition, lighting, perspective... every conceivable technical aspect has given me headache. I put this painting down quite some time ago, and moved on. Though I really hope to finish it one day, given how much time I've already burned on it.
And yeah, tiny heads ftw!

Why so harsh on yourself?
You got great skills. Let the art flow from you, don't squeeze yourself through your art.
Know what I mean?

Relax, take it easy, you're doing great things.
I love the proportions of this guy.

Thank you for the comment
I have to say though, maybe squeezing is what my art needs right now. This painting was started over 2 years ago, still not finished >.<

Oh man this pictures' been so long in the making. It's a relatively small part of a much bigger picture that's taken me over 2 years and is still nowhere near completion

It only ever takes one marine in 40k to look hardcore. Captured so well with his armor design and, what I think really makes him look even better, the scuffs marks on it. I can't imagine a marine with a perfect shining suit of armor but I keep seeing people make them. Yet another excellent piece!

I love putting battle damage on marines, and thinking about how they might have recieved them. Always be suspicious of a marine with pristine armour >.>
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment

you know what ? I believe all humans, if not the whole world is in an eruption of a great connected beast of art ... I mean I can see it everywhere, all the artists I watch are recently becoming unexpected great !!

for example do you know elsevilla ? He was a long time a pencildrawspecialist, the last months he changed over to painting and just look what he achieved that fast o.O
[link]

Sometimes I wonder if I can keep up ^^ so... this is the point of time I have to work more MORE EVEN MORE

see you rahll , good luck for your exams

r7ll In reply to surthur [2008-03-13 19:55:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm r7ll! not rahll!!

And yeah, I know what you mean. But then, elsevilla's always been able to paint, he just didn't do much of it. To be honest, once you've developed an eye for art, crossing over to different styles of art isn't that hard. Elsevilla is a truly excellent pencil artist... and I would be surprised if he didn't turn out to be good at painting as well.

Nice for a WIP O.o
Before I read it, I thought that this is a final piece XD Still, I'm curious how it will look like on the next WIP or in the final piece

Love the coloures and the armour + symbols are nice too :3
The only thing that is a bit odd to me, that the hand of the marine are way too... small for me compared to the suit and the weapon he helds XD Either way this will look amazing :3 (+ I guess the 6 month is waaaaaay nice to work on a project O.o My appreciation )

tacticangel [2007-11-04 09:28:58 +0000 UTC]

Very nice, but one thing I think you may want to change is basically a kind of real-world concern. Generally, for a flamethrower, the underslung little flame is not actually where all the fire comes from. Its basically a pilot flame and some flamable liquid is actually shot past the flame, its vapors catch fire... etc. It kind of looks like the flamer there is blowing the pilot flame forward...

...which may be how 40k flamers work, because they seem to defy all laws of physics. Most everything else is nice, especially the imperial eagle.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

r7ll In reply to tacticangel [2007-12-11 02:27:15 +0000 UTC]

The pilot flame is actually supposed to be setting the flammable liquid on fire... that was the intention anyway. Now that you mention it, I can see what you mean by it looking like it's blowing the pilot flame forward. I'll try and ammmend it, but can't guarantee the result will be any better. I suck at flames XDD

Many thanks for the critique, it's rare to hear some good, constructive comments. ^_^

this looks absolutely badass!! One thing though, I think some of the proportions are a little off, but then again, I'm comparing with the Table-top models, which have never been proportionally correct I guess your digital painting is more anatomically correct and plausible, than the originals Keep it up!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

r7ll In reply to Ironwulfen [2007-12-11 02:39:26 +0000 UTC]

Anatomically correct? Hell no! I like to exaggerate the proportions of my space marines to make them look big and beefy

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Ironwulfen In reply to r7ll [2007-12-11 06:52:09 +0000 UTC]

wow, I guess that's solved then but as I said, the proportions of the tablet-top models are really twisted at times

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

r7ll In reply to Ironwulfen [2007-12-11 13:18:37 +0000 UTC]

Well, that's cause the models are really small. If they were to do them 25mm high and to the right proportions, the heads would be too small lol.
