Description

Makio Yakaki (or Yakaki Makio, if you're a fan of hairsplitting) is a character who appeared in about 3 issues of Marvel's Fantastic Four title in the early Nineties.

You'll never see her in an MCU movie (although it's not impossible that Sony might one day give her a chance) but she left an impression on me because, in a world of superpowers and magic, figures like her have the most difficult jobs around: finding the money to clean up the mess left by the people wearing spandex.

That's because Ms. Yakaki is a financial agent working for Fantastic Four Incorporated. Specifically, she's the woman who has to convince the people who are inconvenienced by the actions of her employers that they can reach a settlement and that of course there's no need to go to court.

Mr. Grimm slightly miscalculated the trajectory of the bus he threw? Call Ms. Yakaki!

Mr. Storm had the genious idea of flaming on in the middle of Central Park during New York's driest summer to date? Call Ms. Yakaki!

Mrs. Richards saw no contraindications with saturating the surroundings of a battle site with invisible blades? Call Ms. Yakaki!

Mr. Richards sent the neighboring skyscraper in the Negative Zone due to an arithmetic mistake? Call Ms. Yakaki!

Credit where credit is due: when you're facing a horde of plaintiffs who have the law on their side, cosmic ray-induced superpowers won't be enough. So, just thisone time, let's give this unsung heroine (and her scrumptious feet) the spotlight she so thoroughly deserves!
