Legend has it that on a foggy morning (or evening?) a group of explorers saw the castle from around this distance. To them it appeared that the castle was floating on a cloud with rocks and roots hanging from the bottom and even with a water stream that poured into clouds below and disappeared into nothingness.
They ran away at the oddity of a whole castle floating amongst the clouds and told everyone about what they had seen. It's plausible that the floating castle images we see nowadays are based on this legend.
Or maybe not.
This is a closer look at King Sahand's floating castle. He built the castle to be the ultimate safety sanctuary.
Being surrounded on three sides by fast rushing water provided a natural protection from harm but the king was after even more protection.
The castle was built at that particular location for many reasons. Most importantly, the whole area enjoys a certain atmosphere where....basically things are a bit magic. Just the right amount.
Another reasons for the castle's location was the ability of the castle to produce it's own energy. Water propelled turbines were built in the foundation to produce electricity for all modern day conveniences. The castle occupants could live indefinitely on it's own resources.
On the opening day, it's been told that a group of witches that lived nearby, came to visit and to bring the gift of protection to the castle. After casting a good spell, they threw their hats up in the air to celebrate. Then the hats landed on tops of the towers and turned into the pointy roofs. After that day, if anyone with the slightest bad intention approaches the castle, they just can't see the castle. They can't feel it or go in it or harm it. It just wouldn't be there.

The guides tell me that we have to quickly turn west and see a pointy mountain right at noon. There are a lot of pointy mountains around here but this one is alive!

It's a dangerous place to build a castle, but anyway it looks amazing
