Description Tremorworks: Demongate High: Cherub

You had to know it was coming, even if I said earlier that I hadn't planned to color the Tremorworks series. And now that I've colored one, I'm going to have to color more. Lots more.

I'm doing this for fun, rather than specifically for ~phoenixsamurai , as his monster manuals are all in black-n-white.

Ink and Prismacolor Verithins.

That is so odd.... What is it?

LOL - It's a cherub as described in Hebrew mythology. There are some hints in the Book of Ezekiel in the bible; the rest is probably out of the biblical apocrypha. Most of what Phoenix gives me to work from is also available at pantheon.org.

I should start reading into more obscure mythology....everyone has seen dragons and unicorns and gryphons....but wow, I've never seen one of THOSE. That is awesome, and creepy-ish.

You colour with Verithins? I would think they would be a pain in the rear...I use them for detail, but I can't imagine colouring with them. But you do an incredible job at it!

Pantheon.org is an excellent thumbnail guide to mythologies from all over the world. Wikipedia.org has some wonderful articles as well.

I colored this particular drawing with Verithins - the trick is that I only mess with Verithins on very small drawings, and I use a lot of light layers to get the color effects I want. Verithins also *travel* well - they don't break nearly as easily as the soft-lead pencils. Normally, I use the Prismacolor Premiers for my color work.

Oh, that's quite all right. I like worms.

I'd been thinking about coloring my favorite images from this series for some time anyway. I ran out of stuff to ink during my lunch hour a couple of weeks ago, and now I'm committed to getting a gob of these guys colored in. I think I have about forty in my pile right now...

I love the colors; they're really eerie. Somehow it makes it look more magical since you put all these weird colors next to each other. But its so cool. X3

LOL - More eerie? Here I was trying to make the cherub a little more accessible with all its purdy colors... Glad you like it, at any rate!

oashisu In reply to rachaelm5 [2008-07-21 20:40:41 +0000 UTC]

I think its really because the colors aren't as full and bright as you can make them. They seem paler. But thats because of those verithins. Usually you use the regular ones I am thinking and they lay on pounds of color XD

rachaelm5 In reply to oashisu [2008-07-21 21:37:10 +0000 UTC]

Quite right. I have to use an entirely different layering technique with the Verithins because of the hard-leadedness of them. The color job ends up being quite a bit less intense!

Yeah. I don't know, I've always had a hard time with them verithins. Cause they're very thin >.>;;;

Beautiful color scheme! I love how the tips stand out more than the rest of the wing!

Thanks very much.

I was worried about the form of the cherub disappearing in all of the details, so I used the colors in such a way that we could differentiate the different layers of its wings. Glad it worked!

Thanks muchly. Mythology is great fun as resource material, even if it doesn't really give me good color notes for stuff like this.

This is from Hebrew mythology. This image of the Cherub is described in the Christian bible - not quite in such detail, but the Book of Ezekiel does describe a four-winged being with four faces, and with many, many eyes on the wings.
