One of the questions asked over on Instagram after Witch War was finished was "Does Martin ever find love?" I said "yes!" and proceeded to describe her...which meant I had to draw her at some point

So here is Martin's future wife, Deliah - she moves to Corona's castle town not long after the end of Witch War, to set up a bakery there. She insists on working alone: no assistant, no family, no one, and it comes back to bite her in the butt when her place gets broken into. Martin is assigned to investigate the issue, and they get off to a rocky start, mostly due to Deliah being extremely jaded. She's fiercely independent and insists that she doesn't need help from anyone, but she changes her tune when Martin points out how prideful she's being. He then uncovers more of her past: her mother was killed when she was a child, and her father became a raging alcoholic because of it - while he wasn't physically abusive, he was extremely neglectful, leaving Deliah to mostly raise herself. By the time she was sixteen, her father had poisoned himself six feet under, and his property was taken by the crown. Deliah was taken in by a baker in Newbarth, who treated her well and taught her his art. By the time she was nineteen, Deliah had finally saved up enough money to purchase property at the capitol. Then, of course, Martin saves her from the next break-in attempt, and she falls hard - she finds it really hard to believe that he's still single, and he realizes that she's just the woman he wants. I imagine they get hitched pretty darn quick after that, and Martin's family absolutely adores her Once you break the ice with her, Deliah is very kind, insanely good with children, and she donates to the poor box on a weekly basis. She's astoundingly patient and mellow, and she will fight to the death for her man and his honor. Think a bit like Elsa, but without the ice powers - as far as I know, Deliah is a muggle, for now anyway

Oh, and she's the best baker Corona's ever had

I designed Shay with the intent to compare and contrast Rapunzel, but I made a much more conscious effort to communicate Deliah's personality through her appearance. Her sleeves are rolled up, so she's not afraid to get her hands dirty, but she also has a very high buttoned collar to show how reserved and no-nonsense she is. Her hair is shorter as a means of practicality, but she also braids it out of her face to express femininity. She doesn't wear flashy colors, but the cut of her outfit is meant to be flattering. Lastly, she has simple boots, but she makes an effort to keep them clean
