Description I love experimenting with different art mediums. This is a hand-carved wood talisman that I made for my fiance. It was made with the intention to give off protective energies. I put GREAT care into making this legitimate, from its design, to its materials, down to putting my intention of protection into every single carve Don't judge too harshly - this is the first time I've ever wood-carved!

The wood used is Oak wood (collected from a fallen branch during a storm), which, due to the Oak's very nature of being strong and hard, is a wonderful protective wood. The design itself is meant to represent an old Viking shield with a Norse cross - further enforcing the idea of protection. The crystals used are Amethyst, Hematite, and Black Tourmaline, which are all placed strategically in a crystal grid format. On the back of the pendant is the ancient Elder Furhark rune, Algiz, which is a rune of protection that is meant to look like the strong, protective horns of an elk. The wood is wrapped in suede leather, and a special (delicious smelling) oil was brushed over the front and back as an extra little touch of "magic" =] The binding agent I used to attach the crystals to the wood got a little bit messy... the other stuff I had used wasn't working very well. So unfortunately, some of the glue shows. But I still like the way it turned out - and it shows up more in pictures than it does in person =]

I had so much fun creating this! Although, it really ended up hurting my hands in the end lol. But would anyone be interested in seeing more of this kind of work...? Or just different art mediums in general?

Enjoy!

Very cool and neat design! It's so smooth for oak!Β  Gorgeous work on the inlay design, and getting it so symmetrical-a hard thing to do with raw gem points hahaΒ  I hope your fiance liked it! (PS wedding date??? =] ) haha

Thank you! I sanded it down quite a bit ;] It was EXTREMELY difficult lol, but I am having some trouble with the stones - they keep falling out! I tried a different kind of glue which seems to be working better now, but... if I ever sell this kind of jewelry, I'll need to figure out how to make it more durable lol. And he did! No wedding date yet - I am trying to lose weight before the wedding... and because that weight-loss journey has been so slow... well, we decided to wait to set a date until I get to where I want to be xD

Hmmm...that is interesting--I'd say an epoxy glue (nothing escapes that) or maybe even lay them in resin-I don't think they will come out if they are resin embedded in there.Β  Hopefully you can figure something out, because they make pretty neat pieces! And that sounds like a fair deal- no rush anyways You'll have to keep me posted when you decide a date though!

Resin is a good idea - perhaps I'll try that =] I got a couple little moonstones that I'd like to make my own pendant out of with willow wood. Unfortunately, I can't carve very well... I might have to find someone to do that part for me xD Or at least shape it into rounded out pieces that I can try to carve out myself xD. And I will keep you posted on that! ^.^

Wow, this is definitely different. Looks really neat though, love the thought behind it! It's always good to branch out from your usual style, trying new things can lead to awesome results over time.

Thank you =] It is really different from what I normally do, but it is very refreshing to try new things out here and there. What I'd like to do eventually is combine lots of different art styles together to create something just awesome! xD Someday, anyway lol.
