It just takes a lot of observation and practice. I like to research the anatomy of as many types of animals as I can think of, understanding how they're put together makes it easier to know how they should look on paper. It's also helpful for fantasy animals/monsters, for knowing how things fit together on real animals so you can mix and match them up.
