Description
Fire starter for PokΓ©mon Turquoise and Jade. Evolves from Flarach .This massive bug PokΓ©mon digs a deep burrow in the middle of its chosen territory. At night, it patrols the area for prey and drives out any other Magmarachs it comes across. In the morning, it returns to its hole to sleep, blocking the entrance with webbing and debris.

Might I ask what the etymology behind its Japanese name (Tarantaku) is? There's 'tarantula', of course, but '-taku' mystifies me.

Man, this concept of yours is pretty awesome!
Though, is as well scary, because that spider is real killer.
A red-knee tarantula (which in real life can kill a man with one bite, but I guess you know that) plus fire powers and the size of a human being? Jeez! I wouldn't want to come across it by myself at all!
But, anyway.
It's awesome!

You mean a redknee like the one I'm poking here? [link] No, they are not deadly in the least.

But I read somewhere that the mexican redknee tarantula is in fact deadly if provoked.

Come on, even Wikipedia says this - [link]
The redknee is probably the single most popular pet tarantula species, this wouldn't be so if they were remotely dangerous.

So I have been wrong all this time...
YES!!!
Now I can have my own redknee tarantula!
Thank you!

If you are interested in tarantulas, I VERY highly recommend The Tarantula Keeper's Guide . It's a really great book and definitely the most informative on the subject that I've found so far.

I looked at this fakemon's whole evolution series and I have to say I like it a lot.
I was surprised to see a spider starter idea in the first place and it makes me happy to see something that isn't a ball with eyes ( sadly like so many pokemon/fakemon are )
Iβve read some posts saying that it isnβt pokemon enough or it has an award type or name - which seemed a bit nick-picky ... Itβs a fine fakemon and donβt let anyone tell you differently.
If it is a tad too realistic for pokemon standards maybe you can come up with your own type of βbattle monstersβ. That way you can make a whole different world and rules for them so they can look how ever you want them to. ( I do that with my βNeotemβ
Normally in the games I pick the grass type ( with the exception of mudkip of course ) because I think the fire types are too popular simply because they are fire and so are rarely chosen for their design. Maybe its the inner primitive that urges people to pick fire... I dunno.
But in this case I'd totally choose the fire type, because I believe you have a great pokemon concept.
- Sorry for the long post. I'm use to giving college critiques.

You could take it for a walk on a tarantula leash!
It'd be like having a guarddog, but even better!

Walk? Leash?
Screw that, look at the side of that thing... it's almost as tall as me and weighs more than my dad - I could RIDE it!

i like it... but in all honesty, it seems too realistic... i mean looking at it i wouldnt guess it was a pokemon
the style on your others are very good at representing the style of pokemon... but htis is jsut too reminiscent of real life
maybe not make the edges so ragged and furry and maybe.. make the eyes bigger or possibly cartonny-ish
poogiemanz are hard :[

I agree it would be best to change it just slightly even it was just the eyes. I think it looks just slightly too realistic.

art is great but the concept bugs me....
this fakemon is good as a regular one, but absolutely not as starter, as its type should be bug/fire so it'd make sense not fire/bug

Types are programmed in the following order: Normal, Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Steel, Dark
Usually, when a PokΓ©mon is dual-typed, its types will follow that order. There are a few exceptions, such as many common poisonous bugs being Bug/Poison, however Skorupi is Poison/Bug (because its Bug typing changes to Dark when it evolves.)
Shuckle is Bug/Rock, but Anorith and Armaldo are Rock/Bug. Why? This is because fossils are Rock first and foremost - Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, and Kabutops are all Rock/Water because they are fossils; Corsola and Relicanth are not fossils, so they are Water/Rock.
Sableye is Dark/Ghost (because it is a Dark-type with Ghost characteristics, if you want to accept Mystery Dungeon as an example, Sableye cannot pass through walls like other ghosts) and Spiritomb is Ghost/Dark (because it is a Ghost-type with Dark characteristics.)
Dialga is Steel/Dragon, Palkia is Water/Dragon, and Giratina is Ghost/Dragon. Normally Dialga's typing would be listed as Dragon/Steel, but because Palkia and Giratina's typings still go in the programmed order, and because Dialga's Steel typing is more important than its Dragon typing, the order is switched.
So: because Fire comes before Bug in the programming order, and because, as a starter line, their Fire typing is more significant than any subtyping, Charach, Flarach, and Magmarach are Fire/Bug.

pokemon have always had the types in the order it makes sense o_O
why would the programmers be so awesomly stupid to make it so that when they choose 2 types for a pokemon that they get the order its programmed and then they change many afterwards because of some reasons....instead of just putting them in the desired order at beginning?
your theory fails at almost all bug(as u already said, even the only poison/bug is an exception LOL), most dark, half of the dragons, half of the flyers, some ghosts, some grass, many grounds, few ice, many poison, some psychics, many steel, half rock, few water and some other like hondour or toxicroak!
i knew about the fossils....but if it was like u think, there would be no reason to change the order of types at special things like the fossils, if it doesnt matter anyway in which order the types are.

Because Satoshi Tajiri's favorite type is bug.

do you seriously believe that the programmers changed ariados' type from poison/bug to bug/poison because satoshi tajiri's favourite type is bug?
π: 0 β©: 2
Turtwig101 In reply to AdeptCharon [2007-12-23 21:21:02 +0000 UTC]
Also the fact that Ariados is a poisionus bug. That meens that the order can suck itself when it comes to Ariados. A BUG WUT POISON IN IT NOT POISON WITH BUGS IN IT.

Do you seriously believe that there could never be an arachnid starter because it would have to be Bug/Fire because it looks like a bug?

I must admit...the grass turtle (turtwig) was a shock (they are running out of ideas and should use urs) but i didn't see a fire spider coming 10 out of 10 for creativity bro.

I'm sitting here trying to imagine the sheer size of this thing in real life... It'd be one bloody huge tarantula. I'm not sure if I'd be able to stand my ground against one without running away eep-ing, which is pretty bad considering that I like spiders
Great design, tho, and a Fire/Bug combo would be really fun, especially on something like this. I bet it could jump pretty high and move fairly fast with legs like that.
