Description
Union Pacific Big Boy 4014Some proportion issues here and there but overall fun sketching it out. Would've helped if I had multiple reference to work off of.

Thank you very much!
I should draw things more like this!! I remember a time where I would be scared trying to draw things in more detail like this...

Ahh. I never really have the patience or motivation to draw something with tons of detail :\

That's understandable. Actually, most of the more detailed pieces that I attempt, I kind of give up before I finish...
I think this one took a few sitting spread over a few days.

Thank you very much! There are some issues but other than that, I really liked how this came out. I referenced a photo though. And I thought I linked it in the description...!

Yeah, I know what you mean, I also use references, but try not to rely on them too heavily so I often end up with some issues in my vehicles. Still great though!

Someone told me that as long as 50% of the object you're drawing has been referenced, it would look like what it's intended to be. Then it becomes easier once you get it down because then you don't have to rely of references to draw the thing later on.
But I know what you mean about completely relying on referencing. I've known people who can only work with a reference but if they had to draw something from memory, they couldn't do it.
Thanks! I want to draw more technical sketches like this in the near future!

Thank you very much! And it would be wonderful to see trains like these running again. It's sad that only eight of the twenty five engines of this type is still around.
I would love to see one in person but the closest one to where I live is probably Texas...

How can you overlay a picture like this?
I've tried it, and it doesn't work!
I use GIMP.

Rad-Puppeteer In reply to RMS-OLYMPIC [2014-08-22 05:07:16 +0000 UTC]
I'm pretty sure I used Photoshop for doing overlays like this, although I can't seem to find the original file that I used.Β Normally I've been using Paint Tool SAI lately but their layer effects aren't that great (can only do simple things). And I usually alternate between them because SAI has a stabilizer for doing the lineart but Photoshop can do so much more with the brushes, layers and effects.
This also reminds me that I should put what tools I use for art that I upload so it's easier for me to look things up if someone has a question!
I haven't used GIMP that much to be much help with the software.

Thank you very much! The 'vintage touch' was unintentional but actually very fitting, seeing that this type of train engine is not in service anymore!
I would move to visit it in person and check it out one of these days!

Thank you very much! It was fun trying to draw it even if I did mess up on the proportions...!
I honesty wouldn't know because I recently just got interested in trains but I haven't really done much research on them or had the time to visit a train museum yet! This particular type of train only had 8 surviving engines (out of 25) and they're located here:
β’ 4004 -Holliday Park
Cheyenne, Wyoming
β’ 4005 -Forney Transportation Museum
Denver, Colorado
β’ 4006 -Museum of Transportation
St. Louis, Missour
