Description
Alursian wyrms are supermassive serpent-like creatures birthed from the Amálea in her image, created to consume space dust and rock. They are world-eaters and vary in size - from the smallest stunted being the size of a city bus, to the largest ones being able to fit entire planets in their maws.
Alursians are born one of two ways - via natural conception and live birth or via asexual reproduction upon the death of another wyrm.
Bodytypes:
COMMON
The common body types are deemed so, as they are the ones that have been occurring most frequently in the species for the past few millennia. Just because they're common doesn't mean they aren't respected though.
- PILLOW: this body type is small and round, and can vary in extremeness. They're usually the 'cutest' looking of the bunch, and are probably the most amusing to watch swimming through space. They're just as capable as other Alursians though, but do have the highest percentage of stunts as their bodies are far more compact than their brothers and sisters.
- SLUG: One of the more common body types, Slugs are the average joe of the Alur world. They have long necks that taper into a well-filled body and then taper out with a proportional tail. The bodies on Slugs aren't always chubby though - some Slugs can be mistaken for Serpens if they're on the thinner side -- but you can always tell because there will be no gap between the last set of limbs and the others.
- SERPENS: Long and slender, Serpens body types are seen as graceful and the closest to royals while still being in the common branch. They're long necks and tails make them quite graceful in space and even when on a planet. The easiest way to spot a Serpens is by looking at the last set of arms, as there will be a decent gap between that pair and the rest along their body.
ROYAL
Rare body types are deemed so, as they are the original body types of the first Alurs, born from the skin of Amálea. These Alurs are usually looked at as being more important, but truth be told, it's simply another body variant that just occurs less often.
- WRAITH: Long and unstable are the two best words to describe this body type. The tails of Wraiths are an enigma in their own right - a mist-like, semi-solid structure of a thing ranging from crooked to tendriled, to straight up misty cloud, the tails of Wraiths are etherial and wonderful. It's believed to be a mutation of the form-shifting that all Alursians are capable of that displays in their natural forms, but it's uncertain. Occasionally you may even see an Alur's skeleton among their wispy tails. The skeleton will never be seen outside the structure of the tail though, no matter how 'incorporeal' it looks, as it is still a solid and not an actual gas. The Wraith body type has two sets of limbs, with the first set being small limbs that are close to their heads, and the second set being a single pair of slightly larger limbs farther down their body that function similarly to hind legs. This body type, though a Royal and though beautiful and graceful, tends to get some flak in modern Alursian (and especially Souvesian) lore as Xoltiil himself was a Wraith.
- CRANE: Considered the more favourable of the two Royal body types, especially in modern Alursian (and Souvesian) Lore, as Qi'Itás was a Crane. These long, slender bodies will have two sets of limbs, with the first set being far larger than the second. The Cranes are seen as generally belonging to calmer, gentler Alurs, and in media are often depicted holding planets within their first sets of arms. Generally this body type is seen with most terraformists and cultivators, a hobby or 'profession' that only became popular after Qi'Itás's adventures with Gal.

BODY BASICS & FACTS
All Alursians are capable of shifting their forms into whatever they're around, and as giant space noodles that travel on the constant, they often use this ability to hide among other civilisations. In modern day though, it's primarily used in defence, as Alursians have been hunted for their pearls, especially while in a different form. To explain this, there needs to be some backstory. As stated previously, Alursians are capable of asexual reproduction, but only upon their death - all Alurs (those with male as well as those with female or even no reproductive organs) carry thousands of 'eggs' within their bodies in an assortment of places. Primarily they sit along the underside of the jaw, the armpits of their many arms, and near and around their gonads. When an Alursian shrinks their body to take on another form, these eggs are compressed as well, and form what's known as an Alursian Pearl or an Alurpearl.
Alursians that take on other forms will often need a few tries to completely look like whatever it is they're taking on. It's not uncommon to see some residual traits from either their alurform or the previous form they took reflected within the other forms they may take.
Some Alursians may forget that they're wyrms and may remain in a disguised form for their entire life.
Alursians have no specific lifespan, and stay spry as long as they are consuming minerals regularly. This being said, bodily functions do shift to take on whatever they're hiding among, so their diets do vary. They still need more minerals though!
Alurs, as world-eaters, are only called so as they've been known to eat under-developed or forming planets. There have been a few who would consume developed and inhabited planets as well (namely Xoltiil) but this is a highly unhealthy diet, as organic compounds tend to make them sick. Alursians are also incapable of spitting out what it is they consume, so instead, Alurs will actually try to force things out through their skin (ouchie!). Alurs that consume organics tend to be stuck in this painful process, and when that happens, their bodies will begin to secrete a thick, black tar that coats their insides in an attempt to help objects pass through their skin with a little less pain.
Consuming organics in an alurform can be highly problematic, as it tends to become addicting despite the injury and obvious pain they will go through. You can usually tell if an Alur has been consuming organics by a spectrum of traits. First, the bodies of Alurs will become lumpy and their form more unstable, with arms shifting placement. Secondly, their mouths may turn ashy or dark brown/black. Thirdly, they may begin to drool or weep the thick black tar from everything they've consumed just building up too much, and lastly, their pores will begin to secrete the tar and their whole body or parts of their bodies will become inky messes. Early consumption of organics in alurform may be able to be combatted with regulation of diet, but it becomes increasingly difficult as time passes.
Alurs have their own range of traits and unique mutations - please see them here: ---

If you would like Alurs to be integrated with or make appearances within your species, please contact me first. There are some places I'd rather them not go. If you are found integrating them into your worlds without contacting me, you will potentially be barred from the species - so please just ask first.
