Description HAPPY VALENTINES DAY

have some ridiculously sad fanart.

Inspired by Millais' Ophelia floating in the water, this is Odette from The Swan Princess. Yeah, the animated one. As a kid, it always frustrated me the way she just came back to life for no damn reason, especially given that Swan Lake ends with her committing suicide.

But then again I just REALLY LIKE DRAMA I GUESS.

This is a depressing drawing, but it's good! She looks like she has aged a little, but I guess that's what happens when love doesn't conquer all in her world...

This is why she just came back to life for no reason:

It's MAGIC! That just happened to be how the spell worked.

Yeah, that was kind of how it went down, huh?

I mean, it's not like anyone can pinpoint a technical flaw in the actual spell. So why suspect one?

Aww, I love Odette. And it would've been so sad if she'd died permanently! *is a sap, and totally can't deal with cartoon characters' emotional problems*

But I love this, it's beautiful, and the tragedy and emotion in it is incredible!

Of course it would have been sad, that's the point!

But thank you, I'm glad that you think it has a lot of emotion in it.

No problem, hun!

No, I didn't mean it quite like that! I meant that at least to me, cartoons being sad is just wrong. The ballet is beautiful and horribly sad, and the story of Swan Lake is too. But the film, to be fair, wasn't a cartoon Swan Lake, it was the Swan Princess, based on the story of Swan Lake.

So yeah, although I totally see your point of view, I have to disagree! Sorry!

It's a kids' movie, what can ya say.

Although every time Odette dies it's Derek's fault. -_-

This is beautiful, by the way.

I HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS FOR EVERYTHING EVER, WHAT CAN I SAY.

The man has got to learn to be more careful with his woman. Who's gonna make his sandwiches if she dies yet again? His mom? I'm pretty sure she doesn't cook.

Thanks!

Lol Odette is like a cat with 9 lives. No matter how many times you killed her, she'll always keep coming back to life XD

Haha, that's a good description for her!

I think at the end she was brought back to life when Derek finally explained why he loved her and that had something to do with breaking the spell.

That aside this is a wonderful picture.

It's probably the proper explanation, but it doesn't make me like it more. :\

Thank you though!

Yeah I know. Even as is its still kinda sketchy, but you know. Details. It's suppose to be a happy story. For the kids.

You are most welcome.

Well, at least something was killed dead and stayed that way. We got a bloodcurdling scream of the Great animal, anyway.

And those hands are GORGEOUS.

...

It's just not the same. (I really like tragedies, and if just Rothbart dies, well, it's not really a tragedy, is it?)

But thank you!

True, true. It is annoying to have a good story messed up to appeal to the kiddies, I gotta say.

This is sweet and it really looks like nighttime. The production of Swan Lake I saw did NOT end with the suicide, b/c apparently American audiences can't handle it. I didn't need that anyway! XD But I usually like drama.
BTW, I was listening to "For Your Pleasure" by Roxy Music while viewing this and it was PERFECT.

raddishh In reply to RayGunNoey [2011-02-15 03:45:41 +0000 UTC]

AH, I feel like America does have this weird cultural stigma where everything MUST have a happy ending, you just can't tell a story with the intention of it having heartbreak without some kind of uplifting resolution which is so ridiculous. Sad movies can be hard to deal with, but I believe they're important for emotional catharsis. AH WHATEVER I could talk quite a bit about this subject to be honest. :\

That's awesome! I was listening to Epilogue by The Antlers while I was posting it, which is why it has this title. (Although I will warn you that should you choose to listen to Hospice you will be ridiculously depressed even though it is also one of the most beautifully simple albums I can think of.)

RayGunNoey In reply to raddishh [2011-02-15 03:54:36 +0000 UTC]

We definitely do! Also, I think people generally have a hard time facing their own emotions and don't understand why a movie or story should make them feel those things, and they don't realize that those are normal reactions, to cry, to feel confusion, to be surprised or shocked, etc.
I've heard the Antlers are really depressing, and honestly during the school year I have to be careful, so I will prob. hold off for now. And anything named "Hospice," yikes.
