Seriously, I never know what this effect's called, so apologizes if the title mislead you.Ever since I found out this effect by experiments, I have been using it on all kinds of my works because it's just so cheap and makes wonderful results. Here's to mention some:
But if you look good enough, you'll find this technique used in pretty much all other recent uploads of mine.
So I just thought of sharing this secret with you guys, wish it'll be useful in any way.
This tutorial was made with Photoshop and PaintTool SAI, but this will be applicable in pretty much any software which have an eraser tool.

It's not cheating, really. You can do shading much easily with just a round brush

Well you can do bgs very easily with gradients. This thing just makes things more stylistically.
