Description I came across a pic while looking for human poses to draw, and the thoughtful gaze and resulting feel of character struck me as one belonging to my own character. Plus, it also radically flew in the face of the stereotypical scrawny priests. So...I tried to capture it on paper, albeit not nearly as successfully as I was wanting. I'm still up to perfecting this, so any thoughts on what could make it better? Faces are most difficult for me...

Note that I made some changes, such as hairstyle and necklace. (With no direct references - scary!)

This was also done largely for *Amdhuscias , since he has been pushing me to do more shaded pieces, and wanted to see a previous anatomy-based drawing of mine done with shade. Hopefully this works! I gave it a go with a new technique I've been working with (I'm trying to be as line-less as possible).

Up next is a far overdue female anatomy piece!

Hey thanks! I've studied some art a few years ago, but the biggest help has been practicing a lot.
There's a lot more like this on the way! I always need more practice! xD

The nipples look kinda weird but besides that its fantastic! He looks scrumptious (I think I butchered that word, I'm too lazy to check if I spelled it right...) gawd I so envy your shading skills...

Radiance-Eternal In reply to BloodWolfGurl [2010-09-24 15:58:20 +0000 UTC]

Haha, thanks! I'm glad you like it! I agree about the nipples...some things just feel weired drawing so I didn't quite want to devote much time to them, lol. But for the next piece like this I promise to work everything to perfection the best I can. ^_^

Ah I know what you mean, I wasn't quite sure how to draw them at first either but the more you draw, the more you become comfortable with things

You're very welcome^^
For me it's the opposite, females are way easier to draw than males lol it must be because I'm a girl...and because I almost never draw men...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Radiance-Eternal In reply to PassionForDrawing [2010-09-01 07:38:23 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah, apparently statistics show people have an easier time drawing their own gender. My guess is it's because we've had a constant reference with us 24/7.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PassionForDrawing In reply to Radiance-Eternal [2010-09-01 10:29:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought too...But it's really annoying, I can't draw manly men XD I've never drawn a boy/men with short trousers 'cause I really don't know how to make his legs not look feminine lol

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Radiance-Eternal In reply to PassionForDrawing [2010-09-02 07:53:29 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I never would have thought of that...that would be difficult!

You might find some general anatomy books interesting for this, or any website going into key structural differences between the genders. Guys may seem really confusing (many women complain of that), but really, we're just a 100% predictable pile of squares. Just keep things angular and you'll do perfectly fine.

Haha, I know what you mean. With most of my pieces I just skip most of the shading - after you work on a piece for a while, all you want to do is be done with it and show it off. But it definitely pays off if you persevere! You can do it!

Thanks a bunch for the fave, too. ^_^

Hey, nicely done. (Thumbs up)

Way nice job on this piece, totally awesome. The shading is great, and the whole thing has a nice feel to it, don't really know what to call it. Like looking toward tomorrow, with a sense of hope.

And, since you asked what we think could be done, I will give my opinion. Overall, it's very good. However, I looked at the overall reference pic, and I think that the shadows on the left side of his body could be much darker.

Question: the website you got the reference pic from, did it have more poses and such? I wouldn't mind getting a good reference pic from there.

Wow, thanks a lot! This was great feedback! I'm glad you like it! ^_^

Ah, yeah, that website is awesome. Basically, it's a super search engine for the image-hosting website Flickr. [link] What I do is select Advanced settings, choose "Tags", and set image count to 500 (it lets you view up to 500 image on a single, very long page). The best thing is, it searches in a loose Safe Mode so you can pretty much search for anything without worrying you'll see something that'll scar you for life.

Although, admittedly, it can be difficult looking for particular poses. People don't often include the types of poses in the tags.
