Description "There is no sanctuary for the flesh" - The Violinst

So...I decided to paint a character that's been in my life since I was a kid. Like...when I was 10. O_O The Violinist is the center of all my storylines, a God-like figure over my other characters such as Seth. She's pretty out there, lol. In fact, her dress and instrument are made from her own flesh and bones! They act as extensions of her body. Given that her bones and flesh are stronger than steel, and her blood is powerful than acid, engaging in battle with her is a bad idea, lol.

Basically, the Violinist is a damned God; sealed away by the Creator of the universe because her very existence (as well as others like her, which I call 'the Amalas') threaten to undo the balance of the universe. Thus, no one knows her name, so she is referred to as "The Violinist" in my story. There's a heavy curse placed by the Creator to prevent interaction with the Violinist. For example: those who desire to see her are immediately struck blind; their eyeballs melting right off. Those who hear her go deaf; their ears bleeding. Those who try to talk to her get their tongues cut off. Etc. Etc.

There's more behind her, which will be exposed in the comic I'm working on called "Septet". I won't say anymore than that though. I'll let it be a surprise for you guys once the comic gets going.

Until then, thanks for staying tuned and reading this. Also, many thanks to the watches and comments! I'm amazed by the recent surge of new watchers I've had lately. Thank you all!

Watercolors? Why does it look like a traditional art??!! tell me!! XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RadiusZero In reply to unfinishedtears [2010-09-06 07:09:31 +0000 UTC]

Eee, it's actually a fusion of traditional watercolors and digital painting. *_* Most of my gallery is filled with experiments like this, basically of bringing together both non-traditional and traditional mediums. Originally, I wanted to digitally render the entire thing like I've done before. But I loved the textures from my original sketch, and it worked well for the mood I wanted to convey. Thus, I digitally painted in a way that blended easily with the watercolors, painting in a way where the digital application wasn't too 'in-your-face'.

Sorry for the long ass explaination, tee. But I love the process of art as much as I love the outcome! Being originally from a traditional background, I suppose the incorporation of actual watercolors as opposed to digital watercolors gives it that unpredictable touch in the work. Conversely, digital paint allows me to control things that may need more control. I hope that makes sense? O_o

Also! This is really inspiring and makes me want to draw women and awesome things and I hope it only carries from my brain to my hands. Seriously this is one of those pictures I keep coming back to and stare at it. *u*

RadiusZero In reply to Melii [2010-09-06 06:53:41 +0000 UTC]

You've no idea how happy that made me. Every once in awhile a comment will strike me powerfully, shooting me with awesomeness and immediately prompting me to reply back. This is one of those comments.

I think it's incredible this work inspires you to draw women. I hope more artists explore gender too, especially in relation to power. For me, I find sexuality to be more of a power women possess than something used against them. It's why my overall gallery constantly returns to themes of sexuality/identity/gender.

With regards to boobies... Yeah, drawing decent boobs is harder than one thinks, lol. Originally, I wanted to expose the breasts of the Violinst, if only to work on nipples and their shapes. But...I really want to sell this at conventions and not worry about putting sticky notes on her. >_> Sooo... I added the corset. Not that it was a bad thing. The corset gave me a chance to work with more patterns and render boobs in a way that conveyed them being squeashed

this is beyond amazing. and her story is very moving. i can just imagine the struggle the creator had to go through to seal her and set curses upon her. just down right jaw dropping dear. dont ever stop your muse from filling you with such wonderful pictures in your mind.

RadiusZero In reply to sharontaylor [2010-09-06 06:18:51 +0000 UTC]

My muse runs too fast for me to keep up, lol. My desire now is to draw the other major characters (such as the Amalas I mentioned in my comment). I also want to post work related to the 7 musicians (which the comic's title takes after and is the focus of the story).

Yeah, the Creator (or Maestro, as I call it inmy comic), goes through a lot to forbid the Amalas from entering the real world. Mostly because each Amala has the power to shift the universe to their own vision. But they also have the power to make people's dreams come true. Unfortunately those 'dreams' often become nightmares. The Violinst can be an extremely dangerous person to get acquainted with. With the exception of a few, not many people live after meeting her. >_>

RadiusZero In reply to BeckyBarbaric [2010-09-06 05:44:20 +0000 UTC]

Lordy, the skirt was something I've always had trouble drawing, ever since I worked on the Violinst's concept design. I could see it in my head. But, damn, it was hard to pull off. Thankfully, I studied art from other artists, studied how they approached 'flesh', and applied my lessons to this painting. I'm thrilled it came out all right.

Thank you! And ha, you'd be right! I tend to do, what I call, 'fusion art', a lot. There's watercolor painting and digital painting involved in this piece (which is why I placed it under Mixed Medium). Originally, I wanted to render it smoothly as I've done with my Gothic Queen series. But for this image, considering how it *needed* textures, I fused both watercolor and digital mediums together to create this.

I hope to show more of her in the comic. It's ashamed I had to delete a good background history on her, as I'm afraid people on DA will take those ideas and run with them. I will say, the Violinist never speaks. In fact, she communicates through her instrument. For example, if she's upset or angry, she'll play a melody that reveals that mood. It's how she interacts with the other major characters in my story.

It makes me giddy inside, reading comments like this. It's been my goal to show more of my other characters aside from Seth. The Violinst is the main character of my story, so it's important that people are intrigued by her. Thank you so much for digging her! And if you thought her dress was awesome, you should check out the rest of her 'waredrobe' Her 'clothes' constantly morph into any design she wants. She literally *can* grow eyes at the back of her head, lol.

Daaaaw, you're making me blush now, tee! Yes, this is my pride and joy. She's my first child, actually, the one I've spent many years with; constantly redesigning.

There's still a lot of design to work on. Like her violin. In the comic, it'll look more 'fleshy' and bizarre. But considering how much I worry if I reveal too much of her in DA (what, with thieves and all), I opted for the basic violin design instead for this piece. Still, I hope this image gives ppl a hint of what type of character she'll be in the comic.

hahahahaha, I confess...I am enjoying the boobies myself. In fact, my recent GQ series and this latest piece have been good excuses to perfect the look of boobies. e__e
