Well it's usually considered inappropriate talking about it like this... but I guess it's something ponies should know about and is often forgotten.
It was past winter, spring was turning out to be really warm and the fields were busy with farmers and roads were crackling under the wheels of loaded trader carts. Things were generally looking really positive after all that political fuss that had passed by last year... the two sides came to a peaceful solution to settle the matter, there was not even a pub brawl questioning the decision of the two leaders, after all the trade brought many benefits to both sides aswell and eventually alliance pact was signed. That night many drank so they could no longer stand and ponies cheered, singed and danced till the roosters announced a new day.
The happiness and visions of great future were soon struck down by rather grym news. The word has reached the court that there was strange plague spreading from Equestrian Westmarch. Soon our garrison received orders to mobilize, nopony knew exactly why or where were we heading at that time...
When we gathered in great hall we were told that we are going to 'evacuate' the survivors that could be helped. Many silent whispers spread across the hall because none of us really understood why would we head for such action in full arms and rather large numbers. None argued, we marched towards borderline the next dawn, when we arrived at first village the sight was rather strange. Local militia was barricaded on the road in narrow pass between mountains, our formation was halted. I was not standing too far from my sergeant that took over the matter relatively fast. What the leader of Militia had to say stilled the blood in my veins...
When we closed in on the village itself, the words were not entirely false. In fact they might have even not been sufficient to describe what was the real situation. Bodies laid scattered around the houses, the stench was hard to bear... in fact many could not even stand it. We went onwards towards the village, it did not feel like everypony fled... rather like the villagers were kept in against their own will. Soon we found out that their will was no longer in their possesion.
Dull moans sounded out through the doors of the church on our front, soon followed by more... The orders from sergeant cut the air like a shot from musket "Formation at the ready!" the weapons and shields clanged when we stood together and braced ourselves for whatever might come.
