Description
Weeeeeeeeeeellll I guess I'll upload this. This was my entry to a certain epic Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time fanart contest. (It's over now.)This didn't come out as well as I'd liked and I'm actually not entirely satisfied. Inspiration for an entry didn't strike until a few days before the deadline, which, of course, was in the middle of midterms. After my last midterm on the last day of the contest, I ran home to draw this and experienced a large assortment of computer problems. In the end, I used three different computers (one Mac, two were PCs) and drew it in two computer labs. I had a period of eight hours to draw the whole thing, start to finish, and probably at least half of that was spent restarting computers, downloading and installing drivers and hardware, running back and forth across campus, and packing and unpacking all my dumb hardware over and over again.
Anyway, I didn't win the contest. I placed 17th, but there were 170+ entries, so that's not so bad. I'm actually surprised I did so well. There were so many amazing entries. I encourage you to go through them on the contest website and seeeee.

Art Β© me, so stop reposting it, you jerks (you know who you are.)
p.s. Thank god for youtube or I'd never have any reference for that freakin' loach.

The perspective and angle on this one receive my undying admiration -- and the entire picture is pretty amazing in general! Especially since you had so much trouble with the computers!

Heehee! The word loach itself hinted me that this pic was most likely from Zelda.
But boy, you have done some serious good hard work here! I donΒ΄t know if the loach steals all the attention in the picture, but that was propably done in purpose. The damn fish looks just perfect!

This should have ranked higher, and I'm not just saying that. If I remember correctly, I think yours should have placed like in the top 10-5. But oh well, right? On to the picture!
I love how you got the Loach to shine like that! Looks like a real fish! And the water! And the clouds! Wonderfull! And you've got Link's clothing too! Wow!
normally try my hardest to find something I don't like about the picture but I really can't, great job!

Dangit.I still haven't caught that dang Hylian Loach. I'm fishing right now, even!XD
Picture looks simply outstanding, Rah. I love the choice of outfit for Link - the blue tunic was always my favourite.

rah-bop In reply to Cyrakhis [2007-03-15 11:54:22 +0000 UTC]
I drew that tunic because the best way to fish is when you use the iron boots + zora tunic. The fish you catch are usually a lot bigger, plus you can wade really far out into the water and get a better shot at catching the ones way the hell in the middle of the pond.
Yeah, sinking lure. Link's a cheater. And for the record, I NEVER caught the loach in OoT, despite endless hours trying. And then in TP I caught it by accident. >>

Hah, I caught it!
And yes, I know the zora tunic + iron boots routine. I absolutely love being a jerk and catching the guy's hat, though. You know there's a way to get the fishing rod outside of the pond? Though if you do it and try to cast, the game crashes.

Rah! Long time no art!
The picture is so dynamic. The sun flare adds the perfect touch. You did this in 8 hours!? More like 8 years.
3rd place totally doesn't deserve it, in the contest. Grr. Congrads for placing so well!

He normally has a green tunic, yes, but he also has a blue tunic that lets him breathe underwater and a red tunic that protects him from severe heat. There's a fishing mini-game in Ocarina of Time, and the best way to catch fish frequently involves stomping around on the bottom of the lake with your blue tunic on.

Fantastic!
I must say some of the entries that got higher than you should really be lower, and I even took a look at what the categories for marking were. Oh well, but I think this is a great picture. I love the detail you put into this and the perspective is awesome!
I wish I had your talent!

Absolutely gorgeous. The detail on the loach's body is great, and the variation in weight between it, Link's body, and the clouds really gives a great feel of perspective and depth. Nice attention to detail in all Link's gear too Also, the way you used lighting really creates an epic feel to this piece.
You rock.
Keep on fishin'
