The Plunderbird (Raptorornis philovum) is a small pelagornithid only found along the coastlines and coastal forest regions of Atlantis. Pelagornithids are well known from Atlantis and appear to have taken a variety of forms. The Plunderbird is no exception, being seemingly convergent on modern skuas. An extreme opportunist, it raids the nests of neighbouring shorebirds and feeds on their eggs or chicks; nesting birds need to be extra vigilant when Plunderbirds are on the hunt. Adults aren’t safe either; Plunderbirds also sometimes use their pseudotoothed bills to open bleeding wounds in unsuspecting birds, then proceed to drink their blood. Their activities aren’t limited to nest raiding, however; Plunderbirds happily scavenge from carcasses and even hunt for fish and squid in the coastal waters of Atlantis. My final entry to the second phase of ’s Atlantis Bestiary in September.
