Description EDIT: Once I upload the actual drawings of these characters as merpeople this will be put in my Scraps folder, in accordance with dA policy.
Guilty pleasure doll thing I did that I want to add to a group I just joined, because reasons. Also made to illustrate the Previous Generation!storyline for my Ever After High characters, AKA the back story for Arion.
In the very first image (of 4), we have the immediate family of Arion. On the left we have his stepmother/aunt, Peirene. (She is now Eirene's twin sister and so is genetically Arion's aunt.) In the middle we have his father, Aeolus; and on the right we have his mother, Eirene, holding him in her arms. This picture is set at the start of their version of the story, where everyone is a merperson after Arion's birth but before Aeolus and Peirene go back to dry land and play their parts. Peirene is understandably upset at knowing that the start of this story means the end of her twin's, Aeolus is trying not to think about it and is distracting himself by doting on Arion, and Eirene is unhappy but resigned.
In the 2nd image, Aeolus and Peirene have just been crowned King and Queen of the Underwater Kingdom. This incarnation of the Little Mermaid is over, and Eirene is gone. Arion is a toddler. Aeo and Pira (nicknames) are reluctant rulers, but they know their duty and are determined to do right by Arion.
In image 3, years have passed. Arion has learned of his destiny and the real story of his parents, and has learned that Peirene is actually his aunt. An already shy and reserved child, this is when he really closes in on himself, upset at his destiny and the unfairness of the world. Aeo and Pira are good and just rulers, but still harbor that deep painful scar that Eirene's death left on them.
The final image is of just Arion, and takes place shortly before he leaves for Ever After High. He is melancholy at leaving his underwater friends (such as this fish, as well as a dolphin family and a turtle), and is depressed knowing that his short life will be ending within a few short years. He yearns for a different destiny, any destiny, but his own. The decoration in his hair takes the place of his actual crown.

Eventually I'll upload actual versions of these characters as merpeople, but for now have this.

Made with the Merpeople Scene maker by Azalea AKA NONE OF THIS ART IS MINE. THE CHARACTERS HOWEVER ARE MINE AND I WOULD BE VERY GRATEFUL IF YOU WOULD KINDLY REFRAIN FROM STEALING THEM.
