I gotta go with on this one big guy. Knuckles became stupid in the later generations because that's how he's portrayed now. Gullibility and stupidity don't necessarily go hand in hand. Gullible means he falls for things easily, making him APPEAR stupid, but the truth of the matter is Knuckles USED to be very knowledgeable in things like ancient history. Would Knuckles win any spelling bees or mathematical competitions? Probably not. But give him the right subject and he'll show you how much he knows.
