well i know most snipers have their sniper spots near spawning ammo crates so they just walk to the side to pick up more when they run low

the only ones i know need the dispenser more is: pyro, heavy, engineer and demoman. not sure why the scout needs it when he is always on the move at high speed

yeah i dont need it aswell but i find myself often in that situation that i accidently steal the metal from the engie.

but i also know some engineers place themselves like snipers do near a ammo crate to get the metal from those when needed so they dont always need the dispenser but mostly for healing

The best mode to play as the engi is in MvM cause everyone gets pissy when no one wanna play as one and picks to be a sniper or spy instead xD

It all depends on the teamwork, loadout and planning on like who will protect engi or who will go on the offence to kill them at their respawn point lol
