Description The idea originally came after watching Princess Mononoke and gawking at the amazing art that was produced for it.

There is no better place to kick back and read a good book than under an magical tree... seriously try it!

Took way too long to paint this, re did the background more than 10 times almost leading to a complete drop of this one.

But I got some awesome help from AssasinMonkey during his frequent streams and I was back on it!

Yeah I don't paint forests very much as you can tell XD going to have to mend that!

Since I'm getting close to the official date of it being 1 year since I fully painted my first pony I have cut out and cropped the first painting into a piece of it's own which can be found below.

I'd love to hear what you think about it!Β

Best Regards

Rain-Gear

(a few tweaks to the painting will be finished later)

Calling this piece dreamy would probably not even do it a fraction of justice. I don't even know where to begin detailing what I absolutely adore about it, cause I know that after I submit the comment, I'll just find something else I love about it.

The mellow colors (if not the title of the piece itself) suggest that this is a place that's always serene and beautiful and that always has hints of soothing floral scents wafting around. I can almost hear a nearby stream and the gentle rustle of leaves dancing on the breeze. A truly safe, comforting, comfortable place. This is what I'd imagine heaven to be like if it's real.

You, my friend, have a new watcher.

I love traditionally painted pony art. I'd almost forgotten how deep and entrancing paintings could be, especially scenic ones like this one.
Thanks so much! I'm really looking forward to seeing more dreamlike, fantastical pieces

Thank you it was a stressful journey at times but even I am surprised I made progress, 8-10 or so months ago I looked at artists like you and thought "I need to get there" so being here now and having you comment on my work is rather surreal. eh? EHH?! Me inspire you pardon me while I gush a little *q*...

Thanks again! Β

I must ask, How did you achieve this?
Where did the talent come from!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rain-Gear In reply to PoshPete117 [2014-02-16 18:40:17 +0000 UTC]

*wipes tears of appreciation* I'm sure with some practice you could get anywhere!

How did i achieve this? hmmm, I wish I had some deep artistic explanation to go about this but it's really just what comes off the top of my head and then some development to make it look prettier. I usually think of a little story to accompany what I'm doing. As for talent that's something everyone has but art is work and you really gotta put those hours in to see the results

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PoshPete117 In reply to Rain-Gear [2014-02-17 09:29:37 +0000 UTC]

True that.
Practice is the key.

I wouldn't suppose you have any pointers to get started on to this kind of art? XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rain-Gear In reply to PoshPete117 [2014-02-17 13:02:23 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure if any pointers I can give would be useful but I'll try and list a few.

Just do it! If you have an idea do it, don't think "oh I can't do this because I'm not good enough" just throw yourself into it and see what you come out with. If it doesn't come out like you wanted it don't just write it off as bad look at what specific things you think could use some work and work on those specific aspects. Then when you think you're ready give it another try I bet it'll look 10x as good as before.

Look at how other artists do things, maybe you're having trouble with composition or anatomy, just look at a piece you like that has what you want to improve on and break it down. Think about what makes this piece so good and try working it into work you do. Of course don't just outright copy it but apply it to something similar until it becomes second nature to you.

Don't worry about "Style", style isn't something you should try to force out of yourself it's something that gradually forms in time.

I'm starting to run my mind thin of tips but I hope these were helpful in some way!

Of course if you have any more questions I'd be happy to try my hand at helping.
