Description UPDATE:

Q: Why aren't you sanding it before hand?
One or two deviants posted a comment asking why I didn't sand it. I (or my dad) actually did when he accidentally spilled some paint drops onto it but it didn't seem like much. He only sanded down some areas and the others were left alone and recoated the clear rubber spray coated. It's been past two or three weeks now and no paint is peeling or rubbing off and good as new.
Long story short, if you want to sand it, paint holds better so it should be longer lasting--but I disagree with some who claim the paint's going to start peeling after a week or two because mine isn't. Do what you want :0

Q: What laptop is this?!
Sony Vaio PCG TR2L (2004), 11 x 7.6 x 1.4" with a 10.6" screen that weighs 3.1 lbs.

...idk D: that's what the info says.

WARNING: LARGE FILE!

As a thank you for 10 million views, I present you with a random tutorial 'u' !

Despite all the drama people are making for no reason over pageviews, I really thank everyone for visiting my page and leaving me nice comments about my work :] ^__^ Thanks guys!

I've never seen a laptop repainting tutorial so it seemed intresting when my dad asked me if I wanted to. LOL. I know most people tend to just buy a new laptop once theirs seem old or out of date (which is how we got that laptop shown above in the tutorial; my dad is in the computer business) but seriously D: If it works and does the job, why would you get a new one? '-';

If you have any questions concerning this, leave a comment, no need to note me ^^ :]

And I apologize for some of the blurry images D: I didn't know they were blurred until after I put them on the computer ._.;;

Any laptop would work.

Although idk, correct me if I'm mistaken, but doesn't all Mac notebooks have a clear plastic shell over their paint? I'd advise not if that's the case :0 (paint won't hold well)

oooohhh. i repainted a laptop once too, it got destroyed in my schoolbag lol. except, i never took it apart, i just taped up all the edges and exacto knifed the shapes like you did. and i had to sand to too..... the paint stays on better if you use a super fine paper to rough up some areas.

cute :3

I once had to pimp a laptop too. For a bling company, I had to glue on thousands of tiny swarovski crystals one by one in a pattern. It took a few days... and the job cost like 3k @_@ more than the laptop. If I remember it was for royalty so they had money to spend on silly things.

AlmightyRamtha [2008-05-20 04:18:26 +0000 UTC]

Thats cool. I've been thinking about "pimpin'" my laptop for a while... maybe add some rims, and some hydrolics..... might have to call Xibit in for this one..
Cute picture at the end.. lol, i've pulled that before. : D

YueYume In reply to ??? [2008-05-20 03:41:23 +0000 UTC]

lol! Wow, I never though anyone did this. I painted my laptop when I first got it because it was black and ugly =_= So I made it white...then silver...then green after it kind of faded...lol I'm a freak. How do you keep the spray paint from getting all gross there your hands rest on the laptop though? I put some clear coating on top of the paint but it gets gross and yellowish (instead of just fading like the pain that came with the laptop) and looks icky...is that what the rubber coat is for? I've never seen that before...

Anyway you're awesome for painting your laptop! Now if my friends say I'm weird for painting my laptop green I can point them to this page and say ha! you guys are just unoriginal. xD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RainCookie In reply to YueYume [2008-05-21 00:20:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah :0 I hear if you sand it down first then spray it it holds better than if you don't :0 Currently the laptop that we sprayed (shown in tutorial) is in good condition and the paint doesn't seem to be getting off :] I don't really know exactly for sure whats happening in your case tho... maybe try different brand or type of paint?

lol ^^

I'd love to use this to paint my laptop hot pink or with some crazy design, but I'm afraid I would break everything while disassembling it xD; Do you think you would be able to make a mini-tutorial of some kind illustrating how to disassemble a laptop? That would be really helpful. But of course you dont have to Also, I wonder, is there any kind of paint that is bad or good for this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RainCookie In reply to PecanPie [2008-05-21 00:23:10 +0000 UTC]

Ahh I don't really know if I could but it's not too difficult ^^ Basically just take out most of the screws that you need and such to remove what you want to be painted with what you don't want :] ^^
There's not exact brand or type I'd seriously recommend (didn't paint enough laptops to know yet D: ) but as long as the paint isn't too cheap (because cheapness usually equals loss of quality D: ) any spray paint should work fine ^^ ;; Just don't forget to rubber spray coat it :3 ^^

The odd timing of your tutorial is that I'm currently repainting my fiance's gateway laptop and we're putting the symbol of the draconis combine (Battletech) on the back of his monitor.

It's very well done and the cute bunny shouldn't freak out over the tiny corner *winks*

you left out presanding the surface. If you dont do that you risk the paint chipping and peeling within weeks of painting

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RainCookie In reply to tomcmustang [2008-05-20 02:30:29 +0000 UTC]

I used rubber cement spray over the top which seems to work quite well 'w'

This was actually done a few weeks ago and all seems well so far ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tomcmustang In reply to RainCookie [2008-05-20 22:44:21 +0000 UTC]

ok well this is something I am fairly familiar with. The plastics used on the cases have a coating on them, this surface is slick and does not hold paint well. It is prolly a suggestion you should make to people looking to use your tutorial.

uh why would any one paint to paint their laptop?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

RainCookie In reply to CookieLover1 [2008-05-21 00:26:01 +0000 UTC]

To express their creativity or to restore old to new.

Most people find it more simple to merely purchase something brand-new because what they're using is old--even tho it's still able to serve its function.

I also already replied to this question ahead of time in the artist's comments. Reading helps :]
