Was originally just going to draw Karkat as a reference for how to draw him for a different thing…AND THEN THIS HAPPENED. All 12 trolls as like…2-3 sweeps old? I’m bad at telling age. Was a fun exerciser in young character design since I usually stick to teens/adults. Did use quite a bit of reference for this. -deep sigh- Might as well go through that.

Aradia- Basically a British ginger, maybe some Icelandic. I kind of wanted her to look mature for her age so she looks maybe 4 sweeps. She’s the only one wearing makeup here.
Sollux- Japanese. Or Korean? I’m not sure since I was goggling quite a bit for reference.

Tavros- Mexican…I’m sorry. It just…he’s a cutie patootie and lookie that button nose!
Nepeta- I don’t even know. I can honestly say I bullshitted here.
Kanaya- Mix of Ukrainian and Middle Eastern- Kinda made her look like one of my cousins. Shit.

Terezi-American, so she’s pretty much everything. I gave her big eyes because I am a terrible person and it’s a shame as to what happens later in canon. She has a bandaid on her cheek because she seems like the kind of kid who would get in trouble.
Vriska- Actually looked at British kids and a certain movie where near everyone was posh as heck and I just wanted her to look snotty.
Equius- Polish actually. I wanted to make him a pretty boy, which prompts him to get muscular as he gets older. This is before he breaks a horn.
Gamzee- I honestly couldn’t think of anything for Gamzee, so I went with slightly younger sad anime character here. It worked, because a friend of mine who hates Gamzee said they hate me for making him hot. SUCCESS.
Eridan- Daniel Radcliffe. That is all. I even gave him the butt chin. Yer a wwizard Eridan.
Feferi- Mix of like..a lot of things. I mostly just wanted to give her a chubby face and big eyes.
Karkat- I just wanted him to be cute and cuddly. That is it. I don’t even know. I just wanted Karkat to have pinch-able cheeks so he’s like…anime kawaii baby. -sigh-
As for their hair saturation with blood color, always been my head canon that trolls don’t have pure black hair, but different variants of it. Some trolls have near black hair, while others match their blood color. So with Karkat having brownish hair here, people could tell he’s a lowblood, but not that he’s a mutant. And yes, Kanaya does have a blood colored streak in her hair. Why? Because it’s cute. Eridans streak is like…our platinum blonde? I guess. I’m going to stop typing now because this is already a wall of text.
