Thanks. If you look at the link, you'll see that I closely followed a ref for this (I was figuring out how to paint mid and dark skintones). Otherwise it's pretty simple - layering of transparency. If you do this right, a smudge can become a detail by the power of suggestion if you step away from it. Paint on a huge digital canvas, and when you make it regular sized, it's all right there for you!

Thanks! Most of the pose is down to the original photograph I used as a reference (I was trying to work out how to paint darker skintones better), but I tried to give her a slightly different face, and more of a youthful attitude/appeal than the original, which was more of a challenging look.
The hair also took forever.

I really love how you create some texture on her hair and the skin to make a realistic portrait. The skin tone looks very wonderful with the blending with the highlights, midtones, and the shadows together along with the details are very well done made
