Listen, I know the palette challenge is over, scroll down to the bottom for more info

Cherry led Poseidon a long ways away from his house. He trudged along with her, not caring where they went, not caring about the pain in his legs from walking so far, not even wondering why Cherry, the one who couldn’t wait for her wings to grow in, wasn’t flying there.
Suddenly, Cherry stopped and Poseidon ran into her.
“Recognize this place, Poseidon?” Cherry asked him.
Poseidon looked around. He couldn’t believe it.
    “This is where–” he began.
“–I tried to fly, and where I held you over the edge, yes,” Cherry laughed, “One of the spots we often visited as Wynglings.”
For the first time since Tabbs died, Poseidon showed the slightest hint of a smile. But then his face fell once again.
Out of the blue, Cherry jumped off the cliff edge.
“I’m doing it! I can flyyyyyy!” she yelled, mirroring their first adventure to the cliff.
“Abort! Abort! I cannot fly!” Cherry shouted as she fell down and did not come back up, “I repeat, I cannot fly!”
Then she swooped up again and hovered in front of Poseidon.
“Just kidding, I can,” she grinned, “These aren’t tiny wings no more.”
    Poseidon still looked sad.
“Come on,” Cherry said, looking at him, “Let’s go.”
Poseidon looked up at his sister, the brilliant ball of happiness and energy she had always been and he thought about when they were Wynglings. She was always the one to cheer him up then and now. Tabbs was still dead, but Cherry was right. Tabbs wouldn’t want Poseidon to be living like this.
Now, really for the first time since Tabbs’ death, Poseidon smiled. He actually smiled. It was a sad one, and he still had tears in his eyes, but it was a smile nonetheless. Poseidon nodded and took her hand. Then he joined her in flight.

It was beautiful, up here in the air, and Poseidon hadn’t flown in a long time. It seemed so peaceful, and it calmed him down. He and Cherry flew around the cliffs they had played in so many times before. Poseidon even caught sight of Jeffrilina “Jeff”, the crazy puckoo who used to stalk him. He even laughed.

The sun was setting now, and both Cherry and Poseidon were getting tired. They both alighted on a cliff overlooking the lake. The sunset was gorgeous, but somehow forlorn. Poseidon felt unusually at peace, like the calm before the storm. He and Cherry sat together in silence for several moments before Cherry spoke.

    “It’s beautiful here,” she said.
    Poseidon nodded.
“Poseidon,” Cherry began, “I love you, I hope you know that.”
“Of course, I do, Cherry,” he replied, “I’ve always known that. I love you too.”
They sat in silence for several moments longer, looking out at the setting sun over the water.
“Cherry,” Poseidon started after a while, “I know we’ve never talked about it either to each other or to ourselves, but…”
He paused to give a long sigh, then he looked directly at his adoptive sister.
“We’re not blood-related, Cherry,” he said, “But you’ll always be my sister.”
Cherry gave a short kind of small laugh.
“Oh, Poseidon,” she said, “I know we’re not blood-related. I’ve always known.”
“You have?” Poseidon gasped, “But you always kept hope that maybe we were!”
“I did hope, Poseidon,” Cherry replied, “But it does no good hiding from the truth. It doesn’t matter though, you are still my brother.”
    Poseidon gave a sad smile.
“I used to dream of finding my birth parents,” he said, “Of traveling to Cressport, Last Notch, even Antova if I had to. But… I just never made it.”
“You know, Poseidon,” Cherry replied, “I actually found out I have a biological brother.”
Poseidon turned to her and gaped in surprise.
    “You never told me!”
    Cherry laughed.
“Well, I only found out about it two days ago,” she said, “Alma found out and told me.”
“Did you ever go meet him?” Poseidon asked.
“Not yet,” Cherry said, “But it turns out I already know him. So do you.”
    Poseidon gasped. “Who is it?”
Cherry grinned. “You wouldn’t believe me.”
“Aw, come on, Cherry, who is it?”
    “Noir.”
“NOIR?!” Poseidon gasped again, “That red quad you told me to stay away from is your biological brother?”
Cherry laughed. “Yep, that’s the one. My archnemesis of Wynglinghood.”
“Wow, I can’t believe it!” Poseidon said, “Noir. Noir. Does he know?”
Cherry shrugged. “I don’t know. I sent him a letter yesterday, asking if he wants to make peace. He won’t have gotten it yet. But he seems a lot more stable now, I hear he’s a father.”
    Poseidon sighed again.
“I wanted to be a father.”
Cherry wrapped her wing around him.
“And I wanted to be a mother,” she murmured, “But I guess… it wasn’t meant to be.”
“What do you mean, Cherry?” Poseidon asked, “You’ve still got time, don’t you?”
    But Cherry only shrugged.

The sun had completely disappeared now, behind the mountains. But the brilliant colors of pink and orange were still visible as twilight slowly descended upon them.
“Sunsets are always more beautiful than sunrises,” Cherry said after a while, “I wonder why that is.”
“Doesn’t it have something to do with the dust that gets stirred up during the day?” Poseidon guessed.
“Maybe,” Cherry replied. Then she was quiet for a long while before speaking again. “You know, Poseidon, people think that sunsets are the end. They think that when the sun sets, that’s it. It’s all over. When in fact, it really isn’t.”
Cherry paused once more before speaking.
“People think that when the sun sets and the day ends that all is lost,” she began, “But then comes the night. The long dark night that scares us because we can’t see in it. We fear what we don’t know, and that is what the night is.”
Cherry sighed, looking into the fading embers of twilight.
“But you know, Poseidon…” she said, “I think that’s okay. I think it’s okay if we can’t see. I think it’s okay if we are surrounded by the unknown. It’s good for us to not know. Besides, the night doesn’t last forever. The sun will come up again, in a beautiful sunrise. And the entire process starts again. Many people forget that.”
The last of the pinks and oranges had almost gone and the two of them sat together overlooking the water.
“That was deep,” Poseidon commented, “Are you okay, Cherry? The last time you talked like this was the night before you grew up and left the Nook.”
“Of course,” Cherry smiled, and tried to laugh. “Of course I’m okay, Poseidon. I don’t know what came over me.”
Then she stared over at the mountains again and frowned.
    “I just have this feeling…”
They both sat there together, on the cliff overlooking the lake. The sunset was completely over, and night had truly begun.

This entire piece, this entire conversation is nostalgic for me and references things about Cherry and Poseidon from when I just barely joined Wyngro. The very first monthly challenge I did was the last palette challenge, and I thought it only fitting that it would be my last. I realize and understand that the monthly challenge is over and completed, but that's alright. I don't want novas anyway. I have no use for them anymore.

Noir, who belongs to , was supposed to have a major role in Cherry's plot, and there was going to be this whole thing when they found out they were real siblings, and Poseidon trying to find his own parents were going to put him and Cherry at odds, and then Noir and Cherry were going to have a fight and Noir was maybe going to lose a leg or something and that fight would be when Cherry would finally lose her baby spot. But it never happened. And, Nix, don't feel bad about it never happening. It's okay, things do go as planned. I'm not mad or disappointed in you in the slightest

One thing I was always looking forward to when I first joined Wyngro was breeding and having a new baby Wyngling. But that never happened either. That's okay. Like I said, things don't go as planned. And I'm okay with that.

Also, shout out to anyone who remembers the female puckoo Jeff whose full name is Jeffrilina and only appeared like twice

Don't worry, there's still some plot left with Cherry and Poseidon. But their time here is drawing to a close. Time for the day to end and for the night to begin.

it's fine! don't apologize! i don't blame you in the slightest! actually, i've been having some issues with wyngro myself, which is why i'm leaving, but i loved my wyngrew too much to cut their story out without resolving it, which is why i'm doing this.

but hey, there were some fun times mixed in there, and i'm grateful for those

Thank you. Yeah, what's going to come is going to be even more heart aching, I'm afraid. There'll be tears o' plenty.

Also, I know you didn't mean to be rude or anything, but would you mind not taking the Lord's name in vain on my deviations?
