Description
It's a good idea to sign your artwork, but many people go way overboard, especially when it comes to fan characters. Don't they know it completely ruins the picture?Rhea is from Slightly Damned .

Heh, yeah, trying to protect your work this way is like trying to keep someone from stealing the cake you just baked by pouring a bottle of vinegar over the top.
At least you got some humor out of it.

Aaw poor Rhea That's why I make my signatures as transparent as possible so long as its still visible, and never in a character's face

100% AGREED!!! not to mention that the worst watermark is the dA one. Ruins everything. Nuff said. :anger:

Ahahah, poor Rhea. XD That has to hurt. XD
Sad when people do this. What's sadder is that sometimes they have to...

Sometimes we all need a laugh from rights-hoarding artists.
Rhea is even cuter than usual in this style! The varied line width and highlights makes her look very... fluid?
On watermarks, *RickGriffin sometimes add one on places that would usually "ruin the picture", but his watermarks are subtle and not intrusive.

Dammit. Now it's gonna take forever photo-shopping the text out so I can claim I drew this! DX

What can be even worse is using dA's default watermark... especially in photography. It just ruins it.
Not saying using something like this isn't just as bad though~

if the picture is ruined, nobody will want to steal it

Lol, Rhea has a "doh" face on her right now. I love Rhea, she has to be my favorite character, I wanna see her face right now
*She's my favorite because of her interesting and emotional past*

*laughs* So true.
When you can't even tell the character even has eyes thanks to overlaid text that's a really bad thing.

I agree. But hey if the entire picture is covered by a gigantic watermark/copyright/signature it can't be stolen right? I mean kind of hard to steal art you can't see.

yeah... copyrighted IN THE FACE.
oh well... I really hate it when people do that, especially when itΒ΄s impossible to see stuff then.

fan art can not legally be claimed as the artists work due to it being fan art. when i saw the thumbnail it looked like she had thousands of bugs swarmed around her head though this isnt much different.

AGREED! I hate when people add horrible watermarks over everything...
In the end, watermarked or not, people will still steal and do stuff with your art anyway~

Oh jeez, some people have really ugly watermarks. Or hell, they can't even be considered watermarks.
And then some people have really cool looking branding/logo things for signatures. But not that often...

I will just say, for some people it seems absolutely necessary, for some people steal and put them to their own commercial use.

Of course there are exceptions, but I don't think the people who draw Sonic or Pikachu with different colors have much to worry about.
