Description
Look, drawing is hard. I mess up a lot too. But not everything is a dog.
Letβs all try a little harder. β₯

Pfft hahaha! Though the sad thing is is that some artists actually do something like this.

No, the sad thing is when they don't realize that they are doing something like that.
The disgusting thing is when they continue to do it even after they realize that they are.
And while I like the snake and shark, the dragon with fur on it's tail is hilarious.

I know that everyone makes mistakes and such, and that's fine of course! - but your point is something I see around a lot...Β I think some artists aren't bothered by anatomy, despite it being important (You know, the whole thing about learning the rules before you break them and such). Some believe it to be a 'stylistic choice' of theirs- although 'It's my style!' is often an excuse, I know - Β but I know others are scared to try anything different in the fear of getting told off. But I think people need to be less afraid of artistic imperfection. Practicing anatomy, especially, you'll always make mistakes as you go along, though.
IMO, it's much more worth it to try and draw the actual animal's anatomy, as opposed to substituting it with something more familiar to the artist. You learn more that way Β
BTW, these little dog-bodied animals are very cute actually : PΒ

Thanks! And yeah, it's pretty hard to break out of old habits. It's easy to keep doing the thing you're used to without thinking about it.Β I've definitely made some dumb mistakes about drawing animals in the past, and will likely continue to do so. But challenging yourself to draw things as you see them rather than what you think they are is good, so... yeah!

You know despite it obviously being an exaggeration I could see them up until the snake, and then I fell on the floor laughing.

this reminds me of that shitty webcomic Concession. It's three main characters are a wolf, a rat, and a cat, and yet they all have the same exact body type and head shape, the only differences between them being the ears and tail.

Ahahah, this is beautiful and painfully accurate. I wonder if soon we'll be seeing this problem but with everything looking like MLP, since a lot of artists are getting into drawing animals through that now?

I think I've already started to see that! Even with a really great video that I really loved, as soon as I saw the canine character I thought "That's just a MLP with paws and a dog nose". Sure enough, that artist seems to be a big pony fan. Fascinating, but nothing new. Think of all the Lion Kings and Baltos... and my art with Pokemon, haha.

Oddly enough, my friend and I were JUST discussing this last night! We were talking about the fact that animals we learned to draw early on as kids affect our art today. Most of my creatures (even ones that I invent myself) have a canine-like anatomy because it's what I've drawn the most and it makes the most sense to me. Others have different animals that sneak into their drawings. It's fascinating.

I have seen so many people doing this though, it's ridiculous!
I mean, I mostly draw canine-like things, but I at least try to learn the anatomy of different animals!
