Get ready for another slew of questions, comments and nuisances.
1) How would the Aurora clan react to a cult that commits genocide in the clan's name? I assume they'd equip such groups and use them as pawns. You mentioned in your profile on humans that the Aurora leaders want to erase their past "mistakes", and I feel like they'd use genocidal cults to do most of the dirty work.Β
2) I have to rant for a bit. Also, there's a story.Β
I'll admit that plate armor is most likely heavy, but I doubt it's heavier than armor made from interlocking chains. Back in 2007-2008, my 9th grade art teacher was a medieval reenactor. One time he had a maille coat, and this kid called Court Butterfield put it on and tried to jump in it. Court was an athletic guy, but he couldn't even reach the top of the door frame in that heavy coat.
3) I compared the Inner Sea to the Mediterranean Sea because the latter is boxed in between Eurasia and Africa and only connected to the rest of the Atlantic Ocean by the Strait of Gibraltar, and I surmised that the Inner Sea was similar. Your description only reinforces the comparison.
Β 4) Can you submit the map to this site? I'm really unsure as to where to put the locations.

RaidDrakewind In reply to TheFlarbar [2018-05-03 03:47:00 +0000 UTC]
For the Aurora who split off from the main clan, they would be horrified at what is being done in their name but as for the rest of the Aurora they'd be fine with it and simply work to use them as another weapon or tool to eradicate the humans.
As for chain mail I bet it was heavy. If you consider very basic chain mail and the metals they had to work with there was probably few light and durable metals they could use for the rings, which meant a lot of weight if you wore enough of it. Also depending on how reinforced it was and how the rings interlocked which could add even more weight. Still plate mail was probably worse due to lack of mobility, the fact it was essentially a metal oven and each of those metal plates probably had to be pretty thick to prevent things from cutting through or piercing them leading to a lot of weight when you consider an entire full body suit of the stuff.
Forget honestly what I've wrote of the geography of Tenar besides the Sigrem Creation Myth so unsure how I described the Inner Sea. It is enclosed by the bigger land masses except in a spot West where a chain of land almost connects to the North Continent from the continent where Sigrem is. To the East however there is a large open area where the sea isn't boxed in. My map is very rough and unfinished at the moment. I started editing the one I generated and coloring in things and printed out one to label and sketch names of places and things but never scanned it or transferred the things over to my digital map. I'll need to work on that in the future before I can really post anything.

1) So would the Aurora equip their new "allies" with special weapons to help them get the job done (Greek fire comes to mind), or are they too mistrusting of any humans to do that?
2) Uh, mail or maille is the armor made of interlocking chains. "Plate mail" could either be mail with plates integrated into it or this .
3) I need the map in order to develop my location concepts. I'd make a map myself, but it's your world, and I'm just fleshing it out. Besides,Β
I don't want to do anything like putting my Painted Desert in the middle of your Smaraggroen Forest. Just leave some empty spaces for my locations, please.
Oh yeah. I think you should check out this guy called Hunterbahamut . You may be able to get a commission or two out of him, and you might like his art style.

They would probably be keen to the idea of the equipping the "thralls" with resources for their raids. More than likely using magic to keep them in line or control them so they won't turn against them. Many of their "thralls" are weak willed or weak minded and can be actually enslaved through mind controlling magic or they are borderline animals due to said manipulations destroying their psyche, like berserk raiders. Due to this they can treat them like savage attack dogs, point them in the direction with weapons and armor, and let them do their thing.
The map... is being worked on. I do have a basic map but it still needs cleaned up and labeled. I have a print out of the uncleaned up version I was using for basic reference to sketch on to start figuring out general locations of major cities and towns and the like but still needs work.
I've almost cleaned up all the little speckles that are supposed to be really small islands but just seem off on a map like this so I am removing them and finish coloring in the oceans, seas, rivers and lakes. After that I can start coloring region based on terrain, adding in keys like mountains, forests, etc and then the transfer over the town, city, and natural landmark names I've already established from my sketch.

How would healing magic work?
π: 0 β©: 1
RaidDrakewind In reply to MointPan [2018-08-07 02:03:32 +0000 UTC]
Healing Magic around a few of the magic types, namely Null, Blood, and Water. Each magic functions differently and therefore the healing is achieved in a different manner.
With Null it isn't so much you are healing someone as your are reverse the circumstances or the very reality in which the wound ever happened. In a manner it is like very selective time travel where you nullify that someone ever was wounded. Now the event still happened however to that person who was hurt it was as if they were untouched by that event. This method is probably the hardiest to achieve and the most energy consumptive. It also requires a lot of precision since you are messing with selective temporal magic which is dangerous to begin with. The other method is basically the staple of Null magic which is simply remaking reality or imposing you reality over the existing one. You impose you reality in which they aren't wounded and they simply... aren't. Now there are limitations of course such as you can't undo death and the greater the wound the harder it is to unmake. Null is one of the few magics that doesn't need to be balanced but therefore has to be carefully used or it can rip apart reality by breaking the rules that govern reality. All in all Null magic isn't ideal for healing but can work.
Blood in truth is the primary magic to use for healing. It taps into the very essence of life itself which is to say fluid that flows through everything. Plants and animals both have a form of blood though it goes by a different name in plants it works the same way. Blood in a sense is the manipulation of the physical forces within a living organism and therefore can be used to accelerate the regenerative properties of a living thing to heal it faster or even be used to restore something to what the "blueprint" of it's form would be. Say if you lost an arm... well you were born with two arms so your "blueprint" says you should have two arms. With this in mind the Blood Magic can regrow the missing limb and restore the body to it's default state. Now like with all things the more damage that has to be healed to the living creature, the more taxing it is on the user of the magic as well as the recipient of the healing. There is a limit without extra help how much damage to a living creature's body can be restored. This same magic can also be used to purge illness or poisons to a degree from the body. Null can do the same for the last part in the method described above.
Lastly is Water. It isn't as good for healing magic but it is generally used for cleansing and purging toxins and such from a living creature. It can purify the blood inside of a creature or plant to remove poison or illness and can sterilize wounds so they won't become infected. They can't necessarily close a wound but they can remove the bad things that shouldn't be there.
In a pinch other magics can of course be used like Fire could cauterize a wound like more mundane heat would with properly control. Earth could be used to seal up a wound temporarily to stop bleeding or maybe make a cast or splint of an injury. You could use Force magic to stop the movement of blood from a wound to or bind a hurt limb as an also temporary measure also using similar methods with Air magic. All these would however not be ideal and most of these could be achieved by more mundane means without the use of magic.
To simplify it, Blood is good all around healing magic. Null can effectively copy Blood but is draining and harder to work with. Finally Water is primarily used to cleanse and purify wounds to allow them to naturally heal better.

You mentioned reality breaking. Would everything end or would things just be more like this ?
π: 0 β©: 1
RaidDrakewind In reply to MointPan [2018-08-12 01:30:44 +0000 UTC]
Well at first it would start causes actual fractures in reality, essentially cracks in the air where there shouldn't be anything to be cracked as though the air itself was cracked. Then eventually with enough reality breaking it would cause those cracks to open up into full fissures that would lead into The Void. With enough of this the barrier between the world and the void would completely break down and everything would collapse in or itself and unmake reality. The stronger the effect or the more your break the laws of reality the more it would splinter it. It's usually why experienced Null users will create an opposing effect to balance reality in such a way to lessen the stress on it. Like if they increased gravity in one location they'd lessen and equal size location in another place.

Eventually yeah... until the end of all existence you would be able to freely travel between the normal world and The Void, Septra's domain, which is basically a dimension of chaos and inconsistency. It was the compromise reached by the Torine that the God of Order and Law gets his playground and the Goddess of Chaos and Change gets her playground and each god only lightly interacts with each other's realm. Hence why things don't stagnate and remain constant in the normal world and why things don't fly apart into nonsense in The Void.

MointPan In reply to RaidDrakewind [2018-08-15 04:02:20 +0000 UTC]
Β I feel like the world of Tenar and the story are both serious enough without the threat of existence disintegrating because someone used Null magic to bend reality a little too much. In your main story alone Hawk has lost his wife and daughter, Raid has lost both his parents and his village, there's tension between the races, and there's a clan of dragons that wishes to mold the world as it sees fit and is happy to use genocidal cults and mentally enslaved unfortunates to do its dirty work. And this is just the stuff you've elaborated on. I doubt Aurik is okay with being unable to return to his own reality, or that everything will be just fine when Raid's true form is revealed.Β
Β And my side story isn't any better. I have a port being besieged by a force called Aurora's Chosen (also called the Cult of Aurora or Crimson Cloaks because of their attire). Imagine ISIL and white supremacists rolled into one and you'll get an idea of what Aurora's Chosen are like. Tensions between the Wildkin and humans erupted into a brutal war which ended in a stalemate, and while relations between the humans and Kin have improved, the vicious nature of the war spawned many rogue forces from both sides seeking to "avenge" the atrocities committed on their people. In addition, the war still haunts a few characters.

RaidDrakewind In reply to MointPan [2018-08-15 04:19:35 +0000 UTC]
Β Well Null magic user are very rare and most tend to not be very strong at using that type of magic. Because of that the effects that they can manifest in terms of bending reality to their whims are minor and cause very little ripples. It would take a LOT of these weaker Null wielders all in one centralized location using Null Magic at the same time and continuously for an extended period to warp reality enough to start manifesting cracks much less actual full fissures.
Null Magic is also very taxing on the user due to the strain of warping time and space around them to their whim and therefore even the powerful ones have a hard time maintaining a strong effect for long enough to cause severe damage. Over time the fabric of reality slowly stitches itself back together and the damage undone as reality reasserts itself and repairs the strain, like a cut healing up. Even severe damage given enough time and without any Null Magic used in the vicinity will eventually heal. The damage is mostly localized each time it happens so imagine it like tectonic plates of reality. Strain in one area will weaken the whole plate but if the strain happens far enough away it weakens that plate and doesn't effect other plates. Though if one of these plates were to grow so weak that it collapsed it might start a chain reaction or something akin to a black hole that would slowly start drawing in the rest of reality nearby. In the reverse of this as it would weaken nearby areas it would strengthen itself perhaps repairing itself enough to stabilize it.
Galon's Rod was so dangerous because acting as a larger scale magical focus that could harness nearby latent magic meant it could essentially create a very large effect to the point of severely straining reality if Null Magic was used and possibly siphoning off all magic nearby meaning it would create a temporary if not permanent dead zone where no magic existed in nature.

I'm working on a siege/evacuation scenario and coming up with concepts for a drawing. I also have a few questions about the story:
1) If some real-life groups of people aim to exterminate others based on race (among other reasons), wouldn't there be one that aims to destroy the Kin and Dorel? Would the main characters have to confront such a group of people?
2) I'm concerned that the main characters might be immune to any danger the story throws at them. What'll you do about this?
3) What period of history would the story correspond to?
4) Do elemental users create the element or simply manipulate it? For example, would a water user be able to create water or just draw water vapor from the air?
5) Are some tribes of Wildkin more "civilized" than others, having had more contact with humans and having adopted human ways?
π: 0 β©: 1
RaidDrakewind In reply to TheFlarbar [2016-09-04 08:30:17 +0000 UTC]
Well for question 1 I've never thought about it but I'm sure there are cults amongst the humans that seek to eradicate The Kin and the Dorel. There are already cults that worship the dragons and have essentially gone back to them thinking leaving them was a mistake and become their thralls.
For question 2 of course the main character isn't going to be immune to danger. He's pretty reckless and headstrong and is probably going to be in more danger than most of them since he foolishly rushes in instead of thinking things through sometimes. It's why him and Hawk get along swimmingly. Aurikelle and Keely are the more thoughtful of the group. When Raid unlocks all his magic he will become powerful but by no means immune. He isn't Superman (I hate Superman, have to introduce a plot device with Kryptonium or some random god like character to even put him in a dangerous situation).
Question 3 would probably have to be more along of the lines of Lord of the Rings technology. Not really much in the way of guns and more advanced things. Mostly Castles and keeps and the like. Most of the low level technology is supplemented in some areas with magic. Dragonsford is very advanced, having groups of trained Wielders divided into each District/Ward (haven't really decided what to call the sections of the city) of the city around the Center. They work at improving things like the condition of the water and plant life, fortifying the structures and walls, cultivating crops and raising animals, forging many items, and other important tasks. Other civilizations might not be as advanced as Dragonsford and are more like villages from back in the medieval days just with a degree of magic in some to improve their lot in life. Another major city is Sigrem where the Great Library records and keeps many historical documents about the evolution of Tenar and it's past as well as many other informative reference materials. The most advanced of the cities are Noz'rem Telen to the South, Dozeen Terek to the East and Aren'nis Sarn to the North. The Southern city is the city of the Meridius Clan which is actually beneath the water mostly, the Eastern is of the Teariff Clan located on the Ceygor Grasslands, and the Northern is of the Aurora Clan nestled in The Fangs, a large mountain range North of Dragonsford. Farther to the West of Aren'nis Sarn is a small separate isolated mountain range apart from The Fangs called The Cloistered Peaks wear the city of Elanon Sarn is where the Enlightened Aurora went to form their own city when they realized what the leaders of the Aurora Clan had been up to. Those four cities including Elanon Sarn are more advanced than anything the other 3 races have built.
For Question 4 it is a matter of difficulty. You cannot produce something from nothing. Most will draw upon, however insignificant it seems, the natural environment to use their Affinity. Yes a Water Wielder might draw water vapor from the air but then they might magnify it with the energy from their own body. It's easier and less draining to draw on things around then to use one's own energy to produce something. The more a Wielder can draw from their surroundings the less they have to drain their own energy to create something. The energy from their body works as a supplement for the missing materials. For instance if a Water Wielder was near a lake they could cause little drain on their own energy and create many spells using the water nearby and possibly even bigger ones without tiring themselves out as quickly as the same Water Wielder trying to use said magic in a desert. Now this only holds true for the Primal magics. The Eternal Magics can be trickier and usually require the balance of forces. A Force Wielder needs to draw the kinetic energy from somewhere however small to get the ball rolling but can then use that force with their magic to amplify if over and over again to make it more potent with less fatigue on their own part if skilled enough. Blood magic is more of a manipulation of the their Wielders internal energies and the life energies of those around them so it is hard to say what they can and cannot do. Same with Null since it is the trickiest of all of them. Some uses require no balancing of forces while others need complete balance. An example would be if you wanted to double gravity in a small area by nullifying how gravity worked there you would have to make somewhere else equally as gravityless. If you wanted triple it you'd have to do twice the area since there is not such thing as "negative" gravity since no gravity would essentially be 0.
Grenfang is probably the most civilized of The Kin's "cities" located in the forest to the East of Dragonsford. It is a large collection of many different sub-races of both Feralkin and Wildkin who live together and work as a community. It's by no means as advanced as a city like Dragonsford or Sigrem but it is not really tribal or feral either. Sigrem is actually a melting pot of many races located far to the South. There are many cultured and scholarly Wildkin who live there as well as some Dorel, Humans, and even a few of the Dragon races. It's a place where many people come to study and learn and has diplomatic associations with nearby towns and cities to the point where it doesn't need to worry about an army or anything to defend itself since the others nearby will come to it's aid when the need is present. Most leave Sigrem alone simply due to it's neutral stance as a city for all. Brindlemire is another example of a larger "city" where many Wildkin subraces live in peace located in Bracken Marsh to the West of Dragonsford. There are also many scattered tribes and smaller villages but there are also larger gatherings of their kind. The more xenophobic and racist villages and tribes are the one who tend to be more tribal and less accepting of humans but even the large civilizations are a bit wary and untrusting of the humans.

Here we go with some followup questions. (Let's keep this brief for simplicity's sake.)
1. Would the heroes have to confront such "human supremacists"?
2. What will you do to convince readers that the heroes are in as much peril from their antagonists as everyone else?
3. Does Tenar have:
Β glass-paned windows
Β full plate armor
Β international maritime trade
π: 0 β©: 1
RaidDrakewind In reply to TheFlarbar [2016-10-11 14:42:29 +0000 UTC]
To answer 1, They probably will once Raid is joined by some of the others from his group that are not human. Probably not much but they might have a run in or two in some cities due to misunderstandings.
For 2 there will be several encounters and close encounters where the heroes will get roughed up a bit and probably will put in at least a few where they need to seek a place to get themselves patched up in order to continue. One of the group is a bit of a healer but mainly self-taught.
Finally for 3, I would say with the inclusion of magic not being too rare that glass panes would be feasible using magic to substitute technologies as well as more olden day mundane methods. Full plate armor would be around but probably not used as much as it would in a non-magical setting since if you've ever seen full plate in the real world it is bulky, cumbersome, hard to get on, it just wasn't very practical to begin with. As for the maritime trade, I'll assume that means trading via sea vessels all over the world. I would say there probably would be a little bit of that being as there are several port cities in the inner sea, but I doubt there is as much trade on the outer sea.
Eventually I need to even upload a rough version of my world map for Tenar to make this less abstract. It's partially done but still needs a but more cleaning up and cities figured out with names and such.

It's time for additional followup comments!Β Let's keep this curt. (I'm sorry if you're getting tired of this.)
Regarding the characters's mortality, having them only get cut up while their nameless allies die is ineffective after a while. Are you familiar with the phrase "anyone can die"?
Regarding technology, it seems to be equivalent to the Late Middle Ages (My guess would be around 1420.) There were early cannons around then, but they were crude and cumbersome and I'm certain weaponized magic would be used instead. (But what would happen if the guns had magic effects? )
Regarding the world, the Inner Sea seems analogous to the Mediterranean Sea. On a different note, if I ever get Nomad's journal going, I plan on writing about these locations:
Β a wooded inverse delta similar to the Okavango delta
Β a desert with some ruins carved out of cliffs and similar to a blend of Egypt and Petra
Β a rainforest with ruins sort of like Khmer/ Mayan ones
Β woods dotted with hedgerows and small villages that still bear the scars of a war that ended 20 years ago.
I hope they fit in with your world.
By the way, are there any religious symbols of significance in Tenar?
π: 0 β©: 1
RaidDrakewind In reply to TheFlarbar [2016-11-01 22:42:52 +0000 UTC]
My main characters are going to get beat up pretty badly at times but I probably won't kill any of them at least not until near the end. Might have one of those noble sacrifices bits near the end but it's still fluid enough that I'm not sure. Some of the more major background characters that are important in the world but not part of the main group the story will follow around could meet their end in the battles.
I call it the Inner sea because of the way the land masses there is an ocean/sea area that is more encircled by the continents while the rest is outside the rest. I only have a very basic version of the map so far with the continents and most of the water colored in. I have an unscanned copy I printed out to begin figuring out the names of cities and settlements and locations of interest as well as natural landmarks and features of the world. I just haven't added much to it lately. I have a list of city names to implement eventually and have a general idea of where I want some of them to be. There is a large desert/plains area to the Eastern half of the world, a rain forest towards the South. As far as the Delta goes there is probably a feature like that somewhere and the woods and hedgerows might exist somewhere as well, I mean it is an entire world.
If you ever played Final Fantasy Tactics that might be a good comparison in terms technology only there isn't any "lost technology" guns. There might be something similar to a very basic gun in the world but it is probably more like a crossbow or the normally technological parts of the gun are replaced with magic.
As far as religious symbols that where the sigils for the different magics come in. Each one is representative of a particular Guardian Aspect, like Kuni the fox is of Fire Magic. Some worship those lesser deities with that sigils. Some worship them as a whole with the Septacle (seven pointed star inscribed in a circle) containing the seven magical sigils. Some worship the Torine which is represented by an equilateral triangle with it's point down formed of three circles of different colors. To the left is a circle of a pale light blue color representing Lanis, to the right is a circle of a deep and dark blood red representing Septra, and below them both in between them at the low point is a circle of Rich Royal Purple color representing Kelvar. To the few that don't really worship one entity they normally have the Septacle with the sigils with the three circles of color in the center of it.
