WARNING: this description might contain spoilers of SE7x13 "The Perfect Pear"
For those of you that follow me on Insta, this surely won't surprise you, but for everyone else: yes, I like MLP:FiM.
I started watching the series a few months ago and I am finally catching up with the current season.
After watching "The Perfect Pear" I had a mighty need of drawing this couple. The episode made me very emotional, it's incredible how in a series where magic is common, where ponies fight via magic-fueled artifacts and there's God-like ponies, this episode about three siblings learning the story of how their parents met is probably one of the most touching ones.
The fact (and implications) that the Apple Siblings have to ask various ponies around Ponyville to hear the whole story (instead of asking one of their parents) makes this episode quite a tear-jerker for me.
IMO BrightButter is a beautiful romance because of how "simple" it is - they just... sorta of... fall in love with each other. They enjoy each other's company and they are happy about it, and when they confess their mutual love, it sounds natural.
I could go on about many other things that I liked in this episode, like Grand Pear's attitude and how heartbroken he sounds when he reunites with Granny Smith, or how the Apple Siblings instead of being resentful towards him, welcome Grand Pear into their family... this episode was perfect.

I'm glad you mentioned "Royal Problem;" that's actually my favourite episode of the entire season! (Of course, with Luna being my favourite character on the show, I suppose I am somewhat biased... )

Well, it was indeed a very good episode too! It's always nice to see some character development between the royal sisters (especially for Celestia, she's quite neglected in that area). But there's something about the emotion that "The Perfect Pear" conveys that's just... really moving to me

Another nice aspect of "Perfect Pear" is the hint left at the end that Grand Pere Pear may return from time to time in future episodes. I sure hope he does return; not only because he's a good character (and it'd be cool to hear Shatner's voice again), but more importantly so that AJ & her sibs could get to know their grandfather. I think there'd be a lot of interesting story-potential there that the writers could & should explore. Hope they follow up on it.

YES!! I have the same hopes and expectations
There's actually a very nice cameo at the beginning of "It Isn't The Mane Thing About You" where you can see Grand Pear and Granny Smith sharing a stand in the fair... and they are selling pear-related products! (and you can also spot Apple Bloom talking to Burnt Oak).
I, too, really hope they dedicate any episode to Grand Pear's relationship with his grandkids, and considering how family is so important to the Apples and how most of Applejack's episodes are focused/related to family issues, I have faith that maybe in the next season we will have a whole episode featuring Grand Pear c:
It would be also interesting because with the revelation of the Apple Siblings being actually half Pear, they have been literally missing a part of them all their life - I'd love to see them learning about pears, recollecting pears with their grandfather, etc.

Just imagine the kind of "Grandpa Stories" he'd have to share! (For some reason, I have this notion in my head that, when he was a young stallion, for example, he was a bit of a rascal & a badboy... Don't ask me why. Maybe it's 'cuz I know that Shatner did the character! )

It gets sadder the more you analyze it.
When Grand Pear walked out on his daughter at the wedding, that was the last thing he ever said to her. Both her and Bright Mac are dead now and probably buried under the apple-pear tree. Applebloom never got to see her parents., as they probably died when (or shortly after) she was born.

YES! everything around Grand Pear is actually pretty sad, even if he acted like a jerk when he was younger, but the guy made a decision back then and now has to live with that regret... Even if the Apple Siblings and Granny forgave him, I don't think he will forgive himself so easily... I can't help but feel bad for him too.
About the tree, I don't think the couple are buried under it, to me it seemed like Granny didn't know about the tree until the end of the episode (since Buttercup and Bright planted the seeds before she or Grand Pear appeared), when Applejack said there was something their parents have left to be remembered by - if she had known, Applejack, Big Mac and Apple Bloom would have lived knowing about the tree and that their mother was a Pear. IMO the only ponies that seemed to know about the tree's (future) existence were Bright Mac, Pear Butter, the Mayor, Mrs. Cake and Burnt Oak, and the last three probably weren't sure if they should tell Granny about it or not.
Either way, it is tragic for all the Apple siblings - heck, for all the Apple family ToT
