Description
Unlike the oceans of Earth, that mostly resemble underwater deserts, apart from the shallow regions that teem with life, the oceans on Eurytos seem to exhibit the opposite when it comes to the distribution of Life.
This is most likely because of the large amount of microorganisms that live in the oceans upper layer. These photosynthetic lifeforms, and the microscopic organisms that feed on them, make the water extremely murky, which makes photosynthesis for larger organisms difficult.
As a result life in the marine ecosystem seems to have evolved, what one might call, External Photosynthesis. Many creatures, whether stationary or mobile, are Filterfeeders, that sustain themselves on the large amount of microorganisms and the waste they produce upon their deaths.
Because of that, the areas with the largest Biodiversity are those that offer lots of space for the Microorganisms to inhabit and lots of current to oxygenate them and transport them around.
The habitat that fulfills those requirements the best is the open ocean and as a consequence, those living at bottom profit the most from this Planetary Bioreactor.
