Description
Convergent Evolution is a phenomenon that is oftentimes misunderstood by the general populace.
In the field of Xenobiology, we mostly observe that completely unrelated organisms, meaning those that evolved on separate planets, only convergently evolve similar forms and body parts, but almost never entire niches or appearances.
The concept of Niches itself, has even been challenged in the field, as there are countless niches, unique to every alien planet.
Species that convergently evolve to fill the same niche usually still have a common ancestor, be that a few million or a few billion years in the past.
Of course, things like eyes or wings still evolve independently, but they are never built and used in the same way.
However, sometimes there are exceptions.
The niche of the Spider, an organism that catches its prey using a web, has been thought to be exclusive to Earth.
Until now.
For this creature here has independently come to fill the same Niche as the spider, albeit in a completely different way.
