Controlled InstinctsMagic the Gathering; Conflux. Β©Wizards of the Coast
Acrylic, Approx 11" x 7.5".
Original artwork for sale; UKΒ£300.
Togk Manytooth struggled helplessly... for a warrior immobilization is a fate worse than death.
For this Magic card I was asked to show a Viashino (Lizardman-like creature) pinned, by magic, to a fleshy cliff face.
I tried to portray the pinned aspect by the contorted figure position. Whilst I added focus and drama through the strong underlighting, falling most strongly around the neck and head.

So I read through all the posts and noted the "fleshy cliff face", but I'm still confused. It's almost as if there was something on the other side trying to rend itslf out of a flesh wall. Since it's currently trailing blood and there's no stain of prior blood that means those "stalagmites" just recently jutted out of there. Am I correct to believe that since you have not made prior enlightening comment on the subject, that there is not one forth-coming?
Oh, besides all that though... Superb as usual. I just joined this site today... well yesterday and I'm still on it, and all I've done is browse through all of your galleries. Well done sir.

great ability to make the model dynamic and realistic its pain throgh the eyes.

With the little bit of gore from his mouth, and the way the 'stalagmites are coming out of the earth in the immediate background, you could almost turn this image 90 degrees and use the contorted body in more of a "he fell from a great distance" pose.
I originally, immediately, saw it as that until I noticed the far background and lightning.
Either way, I'm a great fan of your MtG artwork and am always looking forward to seeing more of it! I hope I get to see lots more cards with your name at the bottom.

Yes, I did wonder whether I should have tilted it more the other way, so that it was like he was pinned to a 'ceiling'

really nice. You seem to excell when you are asked to portray something other than "monster, looking mean". Quite unlike most chaps.

Charges in and rescues cute little critter. The angle is amazing and the tones and shadows give this pic such depth and feel. You never stop amazing me, Please keep it up take care and happy drawing.
