Description
General of Undeath.Acrylic, approx 8" x 11"
Β©Wizards of the Coast; Internal illustration for D&D Spell Compendium.
Original artwork sold.
This image shows a general leading an army of undead into battle. She has summoned a vicious horde that covers the whole spectrum - from lowly Skeleton to mighty Vampire.
This is a vignetted image, but I dropped in a box frame to enable me to show the receding ranks and night sky more easily. This then meant that I could have figures coming out of the framed area which in turn helps make them more dramatic.

I'm pleased you were already familiar with the picture, and that you like it. One day I hope to be able to sell you an original

Oookay... Where's the cleric when you need them...? >_>
Good effect with them coming out of the box. I've always been a fan of that in the D&D books.

Not a problem. Nothing like having the feel that the undead are going to be bursting through the page and about ready to trample you.
On a separate note, is there any way you could put some pieces of just your armor design up? Like, either some stand-alone helmets and armor and weapons, or possibly a tutorial?

Hmm, I can't think I have anything appropriate as a tutorial right now. I tend to look at a lot of different historical sources and tweak them, or else work from product style guides.
You've given me food for thought though - thanks.

Indeed... I just look at this and see some badass armor. lol Whenever I see that, I always wonder what train of thought or creative process lead it to be so badass, and stand-alone armor pieces always help the audience drool over the nitty-gritty details.

Yes, I can see the appeal of some stand alone armour. I just don't have anything like that, and sadly my time is pretty much taken up with commercial work.

Indeed... I'm not trying to take food out of your mouth for the mere amusement of a fan. You've gotta make the money to pay the bills to keep the place where you make the art that makes you money.

I certainly didn't think you lacked understanding, and I would like to do more personal projects. I am sure I could use my time better

Forgot to add: is it just me, though, or do those hooves look quite square?

Yes, looking at them again they are far too stylised aren't they! Oh well, next time...
Thanks.

It did take a little while to draw and paint, but in all it would only have been 2-3 days work.
