Description
Troll MageAcrylic, approx 7" x 10"
World of Warcraft trading card game illustration
Β©Blizzard Entertainment & Upper Deck.
Original artwork for sale; UKΒ£200.
As the powerful magic builds, so too icicles begin to form, an indication of the destrucive freezing force about to be unleashed.
I wanted the Mage to satnd out clearly from the background, and for the magical effect to be clear. Firstly I employed a limited palette in the background, all shades of green. Within the value range stays in the middle, neither too white, nor too black.
Against the green backdrop the more intense, and contrasting, skin and robe colours stand out strongly. They also contain shades closest to black. This strong contrast then stands out against the background.
Lastly the only areas of white are the icy hands. Again this contrast helps to make them stand out.

Thanks for that mini-lesson on color theory. I've always had a bit of trouble with color, so most of my gallery is in boring old black-and-white. Reading your comments helps me think about color more critically, and (hopefully) to become a better artist.

I know i said i could use some cold with the incoming heat pressing on the window.... but... ... *looks at frozen walls*... an air conditioner would've been enough... erm...
Cool looking - i could hardly call her beautiful (though... with some decent makeup, a good dentist session... erm... on second thought.... ) but she surely gets the idea across!
Very powerful image - great work as per usual!!

I like how the ice here actually looks like frozen water, rather than clear shards or crystals that look like glass or quartz as many artists use.

I never liked the WoW trolls much maybe the idea is original but it doesnΒ΄t mean itΒ΄s good. However this work is great, you canΒ΄t complain over the estetic part of this! You are a monster!
