Description
Troll MageAcrylic, approx 7" x 10"
World of Warcraft trading card game illustration
Β©Blizzard Entertainment & Upper Deck.
Original artwork for sale; UKΒ£200.
As the powerful magic builds, so too icicles begin to form, an indication of the destrucive freezing force about to be unleashed.
I wanted the Mage to satnd out clearly from the background, and for the magical effect to be clear. Firstly I employed a limited palette in the background, all shades of green. Within the value range stays in the middle, neither too white, nor too black.
Against the green backdrop the more intense, and contrasting, skin and robe colours stand out strongly. They also contain shades closest to black. This strong contrast then stands out against the background.
Lastly the only areas of white are the icy hands. Again this contrast helps to make them stand out.

Amazing piece of work you have here.
I love how clearly she stands out and the amount of detail on her, like the ice fabric and hair.
Stunning

Love this one, but I think fire would've been a better choice for what's on her hands.

Hm, I see, it's difficult to make an aura or something of the like of ice, since it's supposed to be static. I don't know how you could do it better than you did anyhow, so props.

This is amazing! I really love it! She looks just like my Frost Mage Troll! If you were ever selling this I'd buy it in a second! Do you know the name of the card that it was put on?

So bringing out colors with contrasts close to black and white really bring out the main subject in the picture?

They can make it the strongest focal point, especially against a less contrasting background.

Ah, I see. My art teacher told me not to use white and black, for fear it would take away from the main subject.

Always enjoy reading the artist's notes when it explains why they did what they did.
Wonderful image! She's definitely not someone to cross.
