Description WHEW!!! 6 long hours on Photoshop...

I'm a HUGE fan of the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and in light of the upcoming sequel, I decided to start making some more fan art of that movie again. And I've always felt like the main character, Flint Lockwood, had Asperger Syndrome, which is a cousin of Autism. It makes you very talented on a specific subject, but you have a lot of trouble socializing and interacting with people. I'm an Aspie myself, and I find this movie very inspiring to anyone on the autism spectrum.

The puzzle pieces show notable exmaples of when Flint shows signs of Aspergers. I know there are plenty others, such as his awkward posture or other exaggerated facial expressions to show his "black and white" way of thinking, but that'd take far too long, so I narrowed it down to the main gist of it.

I really think Tim Lockwood, Flint's Dad, is an Aspie too, but he was more of the anti-social aspect of it than talented. He lived in his own world in a not-so-good way throughout most of the movie. I also think Sam Sparks has Aspergers too, but unlike Flint, she probably had a lot more social skills training to help her make friends and fit in. Flint's hometown was stuck in the 1980s, a time when Aspergers wasn't fully recognized yet.

Note: I used quotation marks at the bottom of the FLDSMDFR as if it was saying "Asperger Syndrome."

Beginning conversion of the pieces into a whole...

Feel free to give me any constructive criticism or feedback if you see anything I could fix! Thanks again!

DUDE!! I finally found this again! Holy crap! Back in 2014 when i found this I didn't have a DA account to comment and tell you how much I love this but now I do! When the first movie came out back in 2009 my 7 year-old self, who had a HUGE crush on Flint... Shamelessly, I still do at the age of 16 now but that's not important. Anyway, even back then I was thinking something along the lines of that. My 7 year-old self settled that he had some form of Autism. The movie made me love science the way I do and I started embracing my weirdness because of it. Granted, I lost all my "normal" friends and was a social outcast for a number of years, but I still embraced who I was instead of pretending to be this girly-girl. Instead, was this weird tomboy who loved noting more than science, writing, video games, playing outside and a pair of shorts and a t-shirt while all the other girls my age were into makeup, dresses, sleepovers and having the best phone at the time. In 2014 when the second movie came out, I knew a lot more about the differences between Autism and Asperger Syndrome and settled my mind that he probably has Aspergers. Months later, I found this picture and thought to myself, "OH MY GOD!! SOMEONE ELSE THOUGHT THE EXACT SAME THING!!" I have loved this picture and the thought of Flint being an Aspie since then. Good job! I seriously love this and the idea of it.

Lol, I’m glad you love it! Yeah, I didn’t expect CwacoM to be as relatable as it did (the 1st movie anyway; did NOT like the sequel).

Thanks for the nice thoughts! One Aspie to another

Uh, actually, the creators didn't officially give him Asperger's (I actually asked them on Reddit.com once, and they told me so.) It's a fan theory that I, along with several other fans, have embraced. He's not officially an Aspie, but he's how an Aspie character SHOULD be like, IMO. ^^

I'm really glad you love my work though! I feel the exact same way about Flint as you do! ^^

Oh really? Wow he acts exactly like one! Your welcome! Flints a very inspiring character, expecially to me having extreme AADD. I was made fun of a lot for being weird or awkward, but I really tried hard in my school and friendships. And now people dont bother me as much, flint is an amazing character

Believe it or not, there was a Q&A session on Reddit last October with the directors of CwacoM 2, and they answered my question about the idea of Flint being an Aspie! Check out their answer!

www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments…

Yeah! I have Asperger's myself, and at a time when most Aspie characters in live-action AND animation are unpleasant, disturbing or depressing, Flint is very uplifting as a character! He has just the right amount of quirks and gifts of an Aspie to be perfectly well rounded ^^

Thanks! ^^

I even wrote a fanfic about that very idea called "Creepy with a Chance of Monsters," where Flint accidentally deforms his brain in an attempt to get rid of his newly diagnosed Asperger Syndrome. I think you'd really like it! ^^

I think it's a great theory, and all the evidence is there. If you knew what Aspergers was and then you watched it again, you'd definitely see it, that's how I see it anyway.

A psychologist I saw once thought I have a slight version of Aspergers as well. I'm very black and white in my thinking, and socializing and interacting has always been a major issue for me. I usually prefer to be withdrawn and in my own little world. I've heard about this aspect of the film... very interesting. Nice work, too! Well done!

The movie? It's about a scientist who makes a machine that turns water into food, but one day, he accidentally shoots it up into the sky, and so it starts to rain food from the clouds in his hometown! While his town is revitalized and Flint's dreams seem to have come true, the food eventually gets out of control, and he and his friends have to stop it!

I think the most telling signs of all were when he broke into someone's house for a snowball fight (a funny moment, but he's REEEALLY lucky he didn't get arrested!) And the fishbowl moment was such a touching visual metaphor for Asperger Syndrome. You live in your own world, you have trouble interacting with everyone else, and when something goes wrong, your world shatters before you.

That parts tugs at my heart strings every time....

Yeah! IMO, the most telling signs were when he broke into someone's house for a snowball fight (he's REALLY lucky he wasn't arrested for that! 0.0) And the fishbowl moment? Where he's inside his own bubble and nobody can get through to him, and it shatters when something goes wrong? The perfect Asperger Syndrome visual metaphor! Touches me every single time...
