Description
Finished this one today. It's watercolour, 11" by 14", a commission.It's unusual for me to add the scenic background, but this commissioner specifically wanted birch trees; I suggested the lake.

This is really good! I pain in watercolor too but my yellow labs don't turn out quite the right color. What colors did you use on the lab?

Thanks! The colours on yellow labs are pretty tough to get because there really isn't a ready colour right out of the tube that works well. I believe on this one, I softened yellow ochre with white (to soften the colour) for the primary body colour, and used a raw sienna/yellow ochre mix for the darker areas.

really? I usually use naples yellow/cadium yellow for the main color and add a little yellow ochre, Raw Umber, and sometimes even a little pink. I'll have to try it your way. Sounds interesting! Thanks!

The background is great and the dog is nicely painted too, but I think the background is just too strong compared to the dog. Maybe the scanner/camera ate away the dog's colors, but it looks ever so pale.
