Description
I did an Inktober, but only scanned the stuff now. Sapient alien species sorted by name, mostly having appeared in the written episodes (including the not-uploaded fourth).
Serkanian: An uncommon, polymorphous species with weak to medium telekinetic abilities. They were technologically uplifted from a paleolithic level, yet it didn't take them long to immerse themselves mostly in the medical field and significantly push forwards the development of in-situ organ printers, which led to the only large city on Serkanis to become a popular destination to medical tourism. Aside from the single metropolis, most of the planet remained unchanged and the vast majority of the native population still prefers living like before their extraplanetary contact with only minor adjustments. Serkanians are unusual in appearing in three morphotypes despite not being eusocial. G-types are the most commonly seen off-planet, as their dexterity, small size, stronger telekinetic abilities and being able to handle the cramped conditions on spaceships better than the others makes space travel easier. The original function of the morphotype is being a woodland forager, as they can climb well and their telekinetic abilities make falling off a tree nonlethal. The other two are the large, heavily-built r-types which excavate the burrows they mostly still live in as well as defend their settlements from rivalling tribes and dangerous wildlife alike, and the swift v-types, which have adaptation for fast running and are open land foragers. Since one of the protagonists is a g-type Serkanian and gets drawn often enough, here's an r-type for a change.
Shaoon: A reclusive species that seldomly leaves its home planet. Shaoon are one of the very few species with a radially symmetric body plan, gaining new sections as they grow. They are also the most powerful telekinetics in the known galaxy, able to easily move objects weighing several thousands of tons. Their immense power has the downside of them constantly generating telekinetic waves, which causes discomfort to any species with a fine enough sense for them. They also have the largest brains from all known species, assumed to be caused by a runaway effect when a nonsapient ancestor developed tau-spindles in their nervous system and the stronger their telekinetic abilities got, the higher their survival rates became with little to counteract the drawbacks of this development. This led to psychological instability being common and suicide being one of their major unnatural death reasons. Featured in Episode 1 in the form of a family where the parents lived separate on two planets in a binary system.
Sharkaz: One of the few intelligent species that are carnivorous, Sharkaz evolved from forest-dwelling ambush predators. They specialized in building traps and accordingly, their preferred occupation is in engineering, but also positions where their size and appearance gives them an advantage, like guards or pit fighters. Any Sharkaz of note is female, because the males of this species are tiny, winged and nonsapient, being born mature and living for a timespan of a few weeks. In civilized context the males are usually put into cages before they can fly off to be sold off to willing females, or gifted to close friends. Featured in Episode 1 (a security worker) and 2 (a space station inhabitant with a recently-bought male).
Teeieen: A species with poor eyesight that orients itself and communicates mainly through echolocation. They usually require a living translator to communicate due to translator devices having trouble with properly processing the complex architecture of their vocalisations, albeit there are custom devices that are capable to do so. Featured in Episode 4 as an employee of a space harbour.
Tolemo: One of the more common species in the known galaxy, due to being one of the few species that developed space travel on their own and having established various bases off their home planet Tolemut. Most Tolemos seen outside their home planet or bases are male, since due to their biological history and society expectations males go out and gather resources while females run the home. Females are shorter, but significantly bulkier, an adaptation that has them less mobile, but more capable in a fight. Tolemos express their emotions mostly by colour changes, but are unable to form patterns. Tolemos follow a large variety of occupations, but due to their habit of having families to live separate for most of their time, they are particularly known for developing communication technologies. So far, featured in every episode besides the third.
