Oh awesome! You do some great zoological design, so it's a treat seeing a few yinglets done in your style. Especially like the fishing sketch.

Β I do have a soft spot for the kind of design the yinglets fall into.

Well glad to hear it! If I were to guess (especially given the nature of your Imp "studies"), is it at all related to the whole "semi-primitive critter species exploring the world and developing a basic culture" theme?

Or is it more the physical design? Because from your gallery, I get the feeling we're both pretty interested in the evolutionary period where the "ancient" types of organisms started evolving into the types of species we're familiar with. Some real funky stuff happened in the stretch between reptiles/primitive birds and the early mammals.

It's both, as well as the humour surrounding them.

Damn. That's a lot of biology on one page.

And I'm loving the strangely simplistic Birrin!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Ramul In reply to AntFingers [2016-12-13 09:14:16 +0000 UTC]

And a lot of fun on that page, too.
Well, that's what Birrin are like. I admit, they are better suited for being drawn in a more elaborate style, though.

I always think of them with carapaces, and maybe segments, even though I know it's false. I think my entire outlook on life has been changed by Exobio's Β art. It just, I'm not sure how to put it... Opened my eyes, so to speak.

Aren't her sapient critters fleshy ones, though?

AntFingers In reply to Ramul [2016-12-15 05:45:09 +0000 UTC]

The Gapuri are, though the Bex are arthropoid, like jumping spiders with feathers. The older art she did featured very nice carapaces, and I just love drawing them!

Ramul In reply to AntFingers [2016-12-15 10:54:12 +0000 UTC]

Yes, but the newer art of them has them with internal skeletons as well. Povorot had intelligent crustacean-like aliens, though.

I'm up to date with her stuff, and I own Povorot's book; Jan's Atomic Heart. I really like the little prawn guys in that.

What a pleasant surprise! I love that little seen with the reufer and the doomed little orekroark. And the clashing kalders, I keep meaning to draw fighting kalders.

Maybe doomed, maybe still able to escape like a flying version of that legendary marine iguana hatchling. And kalders are great motifs for fight scenes.

These are all so cool You should be on the creative team for the next Avatar movies.
Aah that hammerhead balloonslug in the upper right is precious. And Ravea looks so elegant and slender, thanks for drawing her!

Ramul In reply to Sunjinjo [2016-12-12 19:07:49 +0000 UTC]

The original designers maybe, as most of the drawn stuff aren't my ideas.
Yes, it was one of the designs that I found was an appealing motif. Also, look up Tullimonstrum if you want to see a real-life extinct animal with very similar eyes. Ravea is totally a model.

The dragoness with a headfin that almost looks like the hairstyle of a punk.

...Now there's an image, punk Ravea. Soon wearing leather jackets, fingerless leather gloves, sunglasses, a studded collar and flipping the bird to both Estell and Jinx.
