Cool, but I never just like saying cool. So if I had to nitpick i'd say it maybe looks a little bit too much like a cat ? Still, that could be me and the fact I have only seen cell shaded and exaggerated versions of moogle....but maybe the ears being more on the top of the head would help, or some sort of expression.

Nice work man, good steps! Not sure if you care or not, but steps 11 and 12 are in 13 and 14's spots, so it kind of goes back and forth near the end with the process.

Nice progression! How do you keep the background separation so clean?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

randis In reply to rubendevela [2010-05-16 12:39:25 +0000 UTC]

by contrasting

soft shapes vs crisp shapes
bright vs dark
colors vs colors

you can also work with fog, white balance, blur to make FG pop against BG

cheers

Thanks, man! I also mean, is the moogle on a separate layer? Did you have to patch up gaps left from the massing up process?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

randis In reply to rubendevela [2010-05-16 14:57:44 +0000 UTC]

all images are painted on many separate layers, this is the best way to work as you can apply changes most easily this way.

rubendevela In reply to randis [2010-05-16 15:06:23 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I was wondering if you were also those that try to do everything on one layer.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

randis In reply to rubendevela [2010-05-16 16:16:13 +0000 UTC]

i paint on one layer sometimes when i work in opencanvas1 but it is very pointless to do if you work with photoshop.

Beautifully built up. I always enjoy watching the stages of a process. Some people seem to think these things just pop up out of thin air, but it really takes a lot of work. The moogle is so creepy in the stages without eyes, haha.
