Description ...The darkness of the Cave lay silent and ominous in front of him beyond the rays of sunlight cast through the large hole in the Cave ceiling -high up above, a few protruding treetops visible against the clear but cold sky.

The Knight, sitting on his heels, glanced around slowly, his eyes shifting behind the small slits of his Iron Helmet as he tried to spot anything inside the darkness that might resemble a Mountain Lion, a Bear or anything that could pose a threat.

He did not want to be here...

-he should be moving, before the Barbarians caught up to him, and trap him inside this Cave.
They would block the entrance -swarm inside, and come at him all at the same time.

-Just like they did earlier this morning when the horde ambushed and overwhelmed the group of Knights he was part of.
They fought valiantly -every single Knight fought like a Demon. Barbarians fell with each swing of the sword, bodies piling up in heaps around them as they hacked, sliced, and thrusted  -desperatley fighting to survive.
But still the Barbarians came.

The Knight glanced over his shoulder.

...they never stood a chance.

One by one the Knights -growing exhausted of the strenous movement, -fell to the Barbarians until just he and Two other still stood.
...and just when it seemed they had finally reached the end of their journey, the Barbarians suddenly broke off their savage attack, and almost -fled back into the darkness of the forest they came from.

For a few moments the Three Knights stood totally dumbstruck, glancing at each other -their Swords -their Armor, soaked in Blood.
Then without trying to investigate this sudden miracle further, they jumped away into the opposite direction of the Barbarians -moving as fast as their exhausted legs could carry them, -as their mounts, those which didn't fall to the battle, charged off into the forest in Terror from the blood-curdling yells of the Barbarians.

But the Barbarians was far from done with them.

Small hunting parties started following them, circling around -trying to block them off, resulting in a few more small skirmishes, in which his Two surviving fellow Knights fell.
Somehow he then lost his pursuers among the dark wilderness some way back, and it seemed he succeeded in escaping them.

But he knew it would not be long until they were onto his trail again...

He glanced forward.

...he should move...

...but goodness knows -the clear Water inside the natural pool etched into the Cave floor just yonder in front of him made his burning-dry throat itch in ways he couldn't ignore.

The Knight slowly rose, then stepped forward, the sword in his right hand glimmering slightly -where it was not smeared in Blood.
He slowly approached the pool, still glancing around, listening...
...but only the wind howled slightly somewhere above in the Cave.

He stopped at the edge of the pool, then kneeled slowly, throwing a quick glance over his shoulder. Nothing moved, and he glanced forward again then brought his left arm up to remove his helmet.
A sudden but low sound from inside the darkness somewhere ahead a bit to the right made the Knight jump up abruptly, bringing his sword up, his Blood starting to rush through his veins as Rage shot up inside him, his eyes hard and wild.

...the devils -they finally found him-...!

Two -Somethings massive rose from the darkness and moved outwards to the sides, then something came forward from the dark shadows, and the Knight's eyes went wide.

From the darkness stepped forth a -Beast, towering higher than -than Three Horses!

It had a thick and powerful body which seemed almost Man-like if it weren't for the strangely formed but powerful legs that was thicker than a large timber with Three toed feet -tipped with sharp-looking Talons, the Two massive -wings that sprouted from behind it's back, the large slightly flat head with cavernous bone-like features -sharp spiked horns that curved backwards from the front, and finally the long thick tail that was adorned with protruding ridges -leading to a thinner, almost sharp tip...all which was covered with strange - dull Grey-brownish bone like armor plates, varying in size and length -even on the wings...

The Knight stepped backwards slowly, still holding the sword up...but he knew, against -that...his sword was as much good as a grass stem.

The Creature stood there, just a ways in front of him. From inside the dark cavern-like shades on it's face two almost glowing Orange eyes were nailed onto him -the Black Pupils thin...long -like a Cat -or a Snake's, clearly distinguishable even from this distance.

...but the eyes-...

-they were not -animal...like.

They seemed -intelligent...and inside them -there seemed to be something like surprise...curiosity, but also caution.

The Knight now stood motionless, at a loss for deciding what to do. He and the Creature stared at each other for what seemed like hours...he was starting to wonder if the Creature did not know what to do as well.
He started moving then stopped, but then slowly lowered his sword and took it at the blade with his left hand, the Creature following his every moves with it's glowing eyes.
The Knight slowly started raising his right hand -holding it open.

He could only -try to show the Creature that he was not meaning it any harm...but if the Creature would grasp the meaning of this gesture, he did not kmow...and he could only pray.

The Creature watched him as he raised his hand, but still without moving.
The Knight held his hand for a few moments then started to lower his hand again...he stopped abruptly when the Creature suddenly moved.
It lifted it's own hand, and held it up for a moment, then made a slight motion to the side -exactly similar to a greeting motion.

The Knight stared -unsure if he was just imagining the ' greet ' when the Creature opened it's mouth. Despite the darkness of the shade, the Knight noticed rows of several large blade-like teeth, the sight making him swallow involuntarily...but his attention on the teeth was immediately shifted away as a sound -a word came form the Creature's mouth.

' Eihnilis k'eihn.''

Or at least, that is what it sounded like to him -but even in different languages, one can sometimes clearly distinguish a greet between something else, and this- -this was a greet...
The Knight hesitated slightly raised his hand again and also spoke.

' G- greetings...'' He exclaimed, almost too soft.

The -Creature touched itself on it's chest.

' Dreg'un.''

The Knight frowned slightly.

Did the Creature just- introduce itself?

He hesitated slightly then reached up and took off his helmet...then he placed his hand onto his chest.

' R- Rheid.''

' Reed.'' D- Dragon...? -exclaimed, complete with a dub of his head.

Rheid dubbed his head slightly back.

Dragon lowered it's -his hand then tilteded his head slightly -seeming to study him...it seemed there was a change in his eyes.

Rheid suddenly remembered all the Blood -splattered over his armor and apparel...an uncomfortable itch then crawled down between his shoulder blades.

' Gen a'ln surmehid...oknih?.'' Dragon exclaimed.

The Knight opened his mouth, but how could he answer if he did not have the slightest idea of what he said?

' Uhn- I guess...?.''

Dragon stared at him, seeming to ponder, then glanced briefly at the pool and back. He raised his arm slightly and gestured towards the Water.

' Nehs ihl een.''

Rheid glanced at the Water then back.

What did-?

Dragon slightly extended his left arm then brought his right arm up, and with a wiping motion, moved his hand twice over his left arm.

Rheid stared -briefly caught by surprise...but he broke his stare abruptly as it dawned onto him that his staring was -probably rude.
If Dragon greeted him like just another person would -then obviously the gesture he just made meant he could -use the Water to wash himself.

' I- uh. Th-thank you...'' He said.

Dragon just stared.

Rheid hesitatingly stepped forward, but kept Dragon in his Peripheral vision. He went to his knees, then placed his sword and helmet onto the ground beside him, and started to loosen his armored glove.

But then he stiffened instantly, as a loud yell sounded from outside the Cave entrance -behind him.

Rheid snatched up his sword and swung around as he rose.
His eyes slitted, and his hand instinctively gripped firmer around the handle of the sword...

...outside the Cave, a multitude of figures came -charging towards the Cave from amidst the trees.

They found him.

The horde was now but a few paces from the Cave entrance, yelling and screaming wildly in triumph as they had found their prey.

Rheid slipped his helmet over his head then shifted his stance...

This is it.

They had him.

But they sure as Hell will not take him without a fight.

The first figure, cladded in a variety of fur and leather armor -his face adorned with Black tribal markings -stormed into the Cave entrance ahead of the rest, screaming like a madman. He swung his arm hard back as he was about to strike down at the Knight with the Battle Axe  clenched in his hand.

-then he gasped, and braked so vigorously -throwing himself over backwards in a desperate attempt to slow himself down.

...something massive went down over the Knight and covered him, then the next thing the Barbarian became aware of, was the pungent smell in his nose as his hair started to burn...-a blazing wave of bright Yellow rushing down at him.

Hey again all! Ah okay, so at least i didn't feel too much like a Zombie today
So this is done with the ol' Traditional pencil, but due to the Scanner being a- real piece of art i edited it a bit{a lot!} with Gimp.
I apologise for the attached cheesy short but i had to give some sort of story to it, and it was fun

Oh and sorry for the way the script was before i tried editing it -i do my writing in a seperate program in case the connection decides to troll me (it happened before!) then copy-paste it...and always i have trouble trying to make it look like the page did not have a hangoverXO
Speaking of which, im not at all good with writing stories -even in my own language- and im not too fluent in English, so if there's any thing you see that needs fixin', hit me!

Okay -anyway, so this is something of a thought i walked around with in my head for a while now

What and how would the very first '' notable '' encounter have been between a Human and a Dragon?
-would the ' Brave Knight ' stereotypically have slain the ' Mighty Dragon ' with a mere sword by stabbing it in the heart through a conveniently situated ' weak spot ' in the -of course- ' impenetrable scales ' covering the Beast?

...or would it be a more -civilized encounter between two intelligent species?

-what is your opinion?

And thank you all for your amazing support! You're awesome and i love y'all!
