Description

A sort of general combat utility craft called a "Cutter". These ships can have a crew of up to 12 or even more if necessary, potentially up to 20 if needed. With a normal crew it can have almost a year of endurance in non-combat situations.
Despite being able to operate alone, Cutters are typically seen as "embarked craft", which means they have a mothership or station and are not meant to be a fully independent command. Missions typically include long-range patrols, sensing, scouting and running long-term listening and electronic warfare missions in deep space, away from bases or other fixed positions. They're also useful for armed transport or escort, search-and-rescue duties, and so on. Modified versions (less weaponized) are also used by Revenue Enforcement & Customs, and demilitarized versions are used as scientific research platforms.
