Description
This isn't a review of Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy.I decided to use this new I3POL to mainly save the review having a long intro discussing my overall thoughts of the series the comic is about. The review will be up soon so stay tuned.
Long before they made mediocre games like The Last of Us*, Naughty Dog owed their success to one orange Bandicoot. I first encountered Crash back when we had the original Playstation. It came with a demo disc that had the second level of Crash 1. I remember playing that for hours on end, trying to break every last box and dying constantly. I've never owned physical copies of Crash Bandicoot's games. I had a downloaded copy of Wrath of Cortex, but never a physical release. I borrowed Crash 1 in the late 90's and I remember using cheat codes to reach the end. I was an impaitent little shit back then (maybe I still am now?) and I didn't want to get all the gems you see. I think what sticks out in my mind about Crash 1 was the music.
I remember being mesmerized by the tunes played in the ruins, Koala Kong's bossfight and even Cortex's theme gave me chills back then. I remember the game being hard persay, but nothing really deal breaking in the longrun. That maybe because I never bothered with the 100% complete rate, just whomping the bosses was good enough for me.
I knew of the sequels, but I never got a chance to play them all the way through, since my brother sold our Playstation to get the Sega Dreamcast..... Yeah, thanks for that, bro.
I did play Crash 3 on holiday around 98/99 (Can't quite remember) and it was at this bar. This bar was fucking amazing. They had a section with 4 Playstations set up, all playing games like Spyro, Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter and of course, Crash Bandicoot Warped.
I remember coming down to this bar most evenings to fuck about with Crash 3 and had a great time. I couldn't hear the games, for it was drowned out by 90s club anthems but I didn't care. Free Playstation games, what's not to love?
As time drifted on, I slowly forgot about Crash. By this point we had an Xbox 360 and I was just getting into the likes of Saints Row (argubly one of the best series in recent years) and Halo. Crash did reappear...... And what the fuck happened?
Imagine if you will that Crash is that old friend you had in College. He was goofy, always up for a laugh and was your bro through the worst of times. Yet you go your seperate ways and you don't see each other again for awhile. However, you finally see your dear old friend again.... And now he's got tribal tattoos, speaks in gibberish and looks like a complete fucking crackhead!
You know everything I hate about Sonic Boom? Well Crash of the Titans was Sonic Boom before it even existed. Think about it.
1: Questionable redesigns for the established cast that everyone hates.
2: Ignores years worth of continuity just to make unfunny jokes.
3: Turns your favourite heroes and villians into ramblings idiots.
4: Takes the red coloured side character and turns them into a roided out moron (Crunch/Knuckles)
5: Makes a trillion UNFUNNY jokes and never takes the hint to stop making them.
6: Kills a franchise.
Mind Over Mutants was so awful, we haven't seen Crash in over 10 years..... No, that Skylanders shit never happened. It's a delusion in your mind.
So that's my basic experience with the Crash Bandicoot franchise. So what did I think of N Sane Trilogy?
Stay tuned.
*I say that because whenever I hear "The game has zombies in it" I instantly dismiss it as mediocre, unoriginal tripe.

I didn't know bars have video games! I remember when Daycares and fast-food restaurant kid zones used to have all of this video game stuff.
My favorite game in the series would be Crash 3: Warped.

Does that mean Skylander Crash is Fake Crash? Β Boom weapons like the water balloon and the trumpet Β does give it resemblance to Crash later games.

I completed some of the crash titles as a kid, but I remember em being a pain in the butt.
Particularly the first one.
Loved the 3rd one, I remember having the most fun with that.

Clever on how you used Dark Souls in the title when people compare that to Crash, which makes no goddamn sense!

I would've compared either Crash of the Titans or Mind Over Mutants to Banjo Kazooie Nuts And Bolts. Why? In addition to both games being arse, they essentially came up with an unrelated game idea that might've worked if the developers put an ounce of thought into the mechanics or made it a completely original IP, only to crowbar beloved characters into said half-arsed game idea, thereby fucking it up for everyone.

Except for the part where you said Nuts And Bolts was arse. As someone who played the game, that could not be more insulting.

In comparison to the previous games? It is. If it were it's own game, with no connections to Banjo Kazooie whatsoever? It's okay.

No wrong. I hate it when people let themselves get blinded by the previous games.

So do I. But Nuts and Bolts is just not a good Banjo Kazooie game. There's taking risks by introducing new gameplay ideas, and then there's shoving buildable cars into a 3D Platformer series. The two dots just do not connect.
