Original sketch used for reference by a pupil of Leonardo's, found in the book 'Leonardo Da Vinci: The Divine and the Grotesque', by Martin Clayton.Sculpture in Plasticine on brushed aluminium plate. About 160mm tall.

This is incredible! The amount of detail you got from that simple sketch is amazing. And you really captured the emotion in his eyes. So beautiful!

Thanks! The scanned image from the book is a bit washed-out - there were some areas of shade that have not reproduced - so some of the detail is lost here. The rest I made up based on Leo's sketches of other faces. I wanted to include his signature wavy locks and gentle gaze that he bestows on many of his subjects. Also, the book mentions that by all accounts Leo was a beautiful man. Hopefully I have done him justice! xx

Many thanks! I had to do it as a partial relief really, since the student's sketch is rather flat. It's a bit skewed because I didn't leave enough depth but shh, people might not notice. Hehe.
